that last was SXSW... I guess they don't allow long titles..

1st of all skip reading this and wait for my unbelievable:mj07: picks for this afternoon and tonite...

College admissions scandals 1969...yes I am involved...my father who was a Manhattan College graduate and teacher wanted his only son to attend Manhattan...I could live with my mothers sister on 252nd Street in the Bronx and be a day student...since my father was a member of the Manhattan tip in club { basketball club} all I needed was some higher SAT scores from my junior year in HS...So my father hired someone from the neighborhood to take them my senior year...admissions scandal in the late 60's...but I intercepted the guy being paid and actually took them myself.. this guy got double pay .. my $10 and my fathers $25... of course my scores were still bad and I went to North Texas State..:mj07: but my junior year I met my future wife...got a teaching job back in NY,had 4 kids and coached for 25 years,etc,etc...Imagine that I didn't intercept Seymore and he took my SAT's.. I would of gone to Manhattan, never met my wife, lived for 4 years with my aunt who was just like my mother and would of been arrested a few times with my cousins...so reading about these college admissions scandals this morning set off some good memories...Texas's tennis coach has been suspended..what upset me more is the sailing coach at USC...a whole bunch of womans soccer coaches, volleyball coaches,etc...but not one Basketball coach...or football...these guys do have some dignity and respect for admissions and scholarships...but these guys are more careful to make sure there are no FBI wiretaps on their phones...

Was texted last nite from my NY buddies Odell was traded...what...being a Knick,Phillies Giant,Ranger etc...fan he was the only thing we could talk about on Monday morning at the Deli { ed hope your reading this and could vouch for me,I know you never post} and we loved Odell because Eli's passes were so bad Odell went up and caught them...what is he going to do with the Browns who has a qb that is accurate....so at the deli the last thing we talked about was maybe " did you see Reggie hit those 3 homers off the Dodgers last nite" Odell is gone with his $23 million contract...but think his time was up and he became such a distraction that the Giants losing the game got over shadowed by his antics...but will miss him ..have to be honest

Zaga...watched last nites game...I have them in the final 4 but Mary just kicked there ass from the opening tap..then it hit me...maybe let Mary get an automatic to the big dance...the worst its going to do is drop us to a 2 ceed....i know that really wouldn't happen but it gave me a possible out for my strong play for the nite.. at least Vermont won and covered big though..

SXSW..its here in Austin this week...you youngers guys know what it is.."south by southwest" Austin has about 1 million people but around 700,000 people from all over come to attend SXSW...every hotel, restaurant, etc is packed...traffic jams all over...its a political, music, new films festival ,technology,.etc...to buy a wrist band or pass for the week is around $800 ...having been here and not attending I saw their film festival list.. a documentary called
"Jump Shot" directed by Jacob Hamilton..executive producer Stephan Curry of the Warriors with Kevin Durant,Bobby Knight,Dirk Nov,Jay Bilas...it was playing at a theater near my house but you have to have a SXSW wristband or badge ...I found out they do allow walk ins if you show up 30 minutes before the show... I got the only ticket left and got to see it...
It uncovers the inspiring true story of Kenny Sailor, the developer of the modern day jump shot and how it defined the game but why the game never defined him...Jacob worked on this film for 5 years.... 3 years ago he showed it to Curry,Durant and they wanted in...it was the best documentary on sports I have ever watched...blew me away ...as I was waiting on the line outside this guy comes up to me...he says " do you know anything about Kenny sailor".. I tell him I read an article about him in the NY Post and how is was the 1st to shoot a jump shot ...don't really know much more.. he tells me that article is in the documentary. I told him I coached in NY for 25 years and the documentary looked very interesting.. he gave me his card and said he saw it and thinks I would like it..
So the only seat left was in row 1 all the way on the left side..happy to get in so was ok...A guy comes out and talks about SXSW on a microphone ,,then he says we have the director here who I will introduce and his production staff and after the movie you can ask him questions ...well they director come out Jacob ..it was the guy who I was talking too in line...he was playing me..after the movie he introduced me as a HS coach from NY who knew about Kenny sailor..he gave me more credit they I deserved... some of you can google it or jump shot is in facebook..maybe someone can paste something here..what a story about a hero everyone forgot...he should be in the Hall of fame in Springfield but gets bypassed every year..but after this movies premier yesterday he will get there even though Kenny has passed away..the quotes from Jay Bilas,Booby Knight Clark Keelog, Stephan Curry and Durant are great...a moving and inspiring story...someone asked Jacob where does this movie go from here ...ESPN,Netflex ,HBO...he said with a smile and smirk after the Springfield Hall of fame see's it the highest bidder ....anyway look it up in facebook or some other site..as I'm writing this I just got a call from one of my Giant buddies..its WTF ..he is against the trade.. sorry about this long and boring post.. I did warn you guys to skip.. back later with a few games... saw Fairfield and Niagara fired both coaches.. I told you guy here many times they both suck

thanks guys..had to post it because I'm getting calls from all my Giant buddies.. its 50/50 on the trade...sorry for the spelling mistakes and poor grammar..if I went to Manhattan wouldn't have these problems...back later with a few games.

and of course there was no real seymore ...my SAT scores were never good enough for Manhattan College...but another story..In my public basketball league were 2 independent schools..JB which was a catholic powerhouse and NYMA a residential private school ...NYMA is where Trump graduated...their basketball coach and a good friend of mine LM passed away last year...of course he was kidded all the time about Trump... he also was an administrator for NYMA when he retired from coaching...wish he was alive today..we might have gotten Trumps SAT scores...I hope mine were better then his...mine are hidden forever in my attic ...think they are in the 1971 Playboy issue ....I only read the articles ...

again thanks for the nice comments...
Liked UMass but the game already started

Tex AM -3.5 over Vandy **
rumors all over that Kennedy is getting fired...damn he made the sweet 16 and NCAA's recently..lost his stars to the NBA and lost Gilder a possible 1st team all Sec and again just lost another scorer last week...Vandy is so bad...think the Aggies play hard for their coach

UAB -4.5 over MT **
FIU +2.5 over North Texas **
FIU just beat them last week..NT has lost 7 in a row..FIU plays a speed up tempo, pressures the ball and has an a good shot blocker inside in Osaghae..NT's best player Woolridge is still not 100%..FIU has no insdie game but neither does NT...Smart NT's leading scorer has been lost the past 7 or 9 games...

Marshall -6.5 over Rice ****
Herd are hot and after knocking off ODU and WKU who are a lot better then the Owls .. Rice has been playing better but the Herd have awoken in the past few weeks... Elmore made 1st team all conf Burks made 3rd team...think Marshall win this by double digits they are defending champs

TCU -4 over Ok St ****
in the last 2 weeks watched both teams vs Texas,,,TCU on saturday ripped UT.. Bane hit god knows how many 3's and every 3 was a swish...he had 34 points...TCU has Robinson one of the best pt gds and the freshman Davis who is his back up..wow..talk about talent..they also have Noi who has a NBA body and then Miller blue collar inside...tough and mean..then they have Samuel at 6'11..these guys lost 6 of 7 before the Texas game...think Jamie has these guys ready for the tournment..they are listed as a bubble team OK St plays 6 or 7 guys..the team manager has been given a uniform...amazing they are playing at this level Waters and Dziagawa are shooting 3 from NBA range...Boyton the 2nd yr coach deserves Coach of the yr...McGriff is really talented but he has been quiet.. think Cowboys having been hanging in all year but today the Frogs don't want to hear they are a bubble team..

OU -6.5 over West Vir **
Lamar -4.5 over Houston Baptist **
Colgate -3.5 over Bucknell **

I actually meant Kenny Sailors a few times in Laramie when I was in college at the University of Wyoming in the mid 80's. We had some good hoops teams with Fennis Dembo, Eric Leckner and others.......I remember 86-87 the Cowboys won 2 conference football titles and went to the NCAA in hoops both years. Football bowl games vs Barry Sanders and hoops vs Reggie Miller and UCLA.
I thought it would be like that every other year:confused:

I actually grew up in Casper which is about 2 hours from Laramie. Two members of the 1943 NCAA champion Wyoming team were Earl Ray and Floyd Volker who both lived in Casper. I went to school with Floyd's son, he was a year older than me. Floyd always would be joking around and say......."Yeah Kenny Sailors hit all those shots but we were the ones setting the picks and getting the rebounds"........then he would laugh. Floyd even played a few years in professional basketball and played in the first season of the NBA. I remember asking his son......."Your dad really played in the NBA"!!!!!
