Yes Joker, I tried Google and Youtube to no avail.

So, I said before I got this $20/month box for home internet access from AT&T wireless because I'm on the unlimited plan and it turned out to work great.............. until I fucked with it tonight.

Long story short it would connect some devices at 5G and some at 2.4G and I didn't see a way to tell it what devices to connect at which frequency. This only matters as things like Alexa, DirecTv wouldn't work with each other if they weren't on the same frequency. My solve was to run the AT&T box through my Apple router and now things have just gone straight to hell.

It started when it made me choose between Double NAT and Bridge. A quick Google search said I should run it as a bridge, so I did. Now i can't get into the site that let's me manage the router settings, it just says the site refuses to connect.

Different devices bounce back and forth between the AT&T box and my Apple router without me telling them to so my 5G/2.4G problem still exists.

Any experts out there who can tell me:

1. How to choose which devices connect at 2.4/5G
2. Should I have left it double NAT or Bridge?

What the fuck........

From reading above I believe you have the order or operations backwards. Asking if you want to bridge a connection is being asked because you are connected to a router, not a modem. Maybe you can confirm the ports you are running your ethernet cables from. I just shot jack an email asking him to pass on some info to you, so please keep an eye out on your email

The easiest way to fix the issue is to get back to how you were originally connected and running and then we can login to the modem and make changes there.

The At&t wireless device shown below is what you should consider your modem

9006685_01.jpg

Once you get things back to normal and connected to the internet - Connect a computer to At&t - wireless is fine

Go to start

type cmd

when the dos box opens type ipconfig

Look at the default gateway and write down the number - it will be something along the lines of 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.254

Open an internet browser (ie, firefox, chrome) and type in the address bar your gateway - ex 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.254

It will bring up a login box - if at&t gave you a login - enter it now (I searched for the default login and this is what I found - 'On the side of your gateway, there is a sticker with the original Wi-Fi settings and information. The Wi-Fi name is ATT followed by the last 7 digits of the gateway serial number (SN), or the name printed by SSID. The Wi-Fi password is the 12-digit number labeled Wireless Network Key.')

Once inside we can do a few things - We can see which devices are connected
We can turn off 5g and everything will connect on 2.4
and maybe a few other things to help tweak the system. It'll be easier once you can see it

large

-----------------

The short to do list
Get back to just using the at&t modem
connect a computer
find out the gateway (probably 192.168.1.254) and type that in to a web browser
login to the modem

Check your email too

Hedgie had connection issues a while back ( insert joke here) and it sounds like things worked out......Not sure if this helps or answers any question about connections, good luck.....:0008

Not falling for it.

Great stuff, Josh. However, your efforts are in vain. Pengy can't get back online. :mj07:
Was never offline, it's just that things aren't connecting the way I want them to and thus not working together as they should.

Josh

Your offer to help is very much appreciated. I got your message and would feel bad if you took time away from what you have going on to help, it can wait. I'm going to mess with it now and post what I can, whenever you get to looking at it is fine. Please, no hurry.

Thanks for the kind offer.

No problem PF - Feel free to send me a few pics and we can double check that everything is in the right place.

I have bridged internet from a wireless computer in to a router so that we could "give" internet via ethernet cable directly from the router. When doing that you do not connect incoming through the routers WAN port, you just use one of the available ethernet ports (1-4). There is nothing logical about it from an I/O sense but the flow chart is

Wifi Lan to Router port 1 for bridge.
After bridging you can run ethernet cables from port 2-4 to devices that require a hard connect.

Also - you can login to both modem and router - Everything I see says AT&T gateway default is 192.168.1.254 - and the default gateway for apple routers is 10.0.1.1

With a device connected to either the apple router or at&t wifi, you should be able to login to both by typing either of those numbers in to a web browser

Good luck

Josh

I'm sure I just outsmarted myself on this one. I have the exact AT&T box you posted a picture of. I have taken my Apple route off the network completely and am running everything through the AT&T box. I found a quasi workaround for the 2.4G/5G issue. I was able to get back into the modem configuration and just renamed the signals as 2.4 and 5G. Prior to that they just showed up with the same name and I guess the modem chose which one each device got.

Now when I connect a device I just tell it to choose the 2.4 signal and "forget" the 5G signal.

Here is where this journey started, supposedly there is a max of 10 connected devices to this box which is not enough for my house. My thought process (however incorrect) was if I ran the modem to the Apple router I could connect more devices to the router even if it meant sharing the signal and slowing down speeds as the the speed I have is overkill for what we need.

I guess my "problem" is I need a way to connect more than 10 devices. Is there an easy fix for that?

Thank you again

No problem PF

I troubleshooted the Washing machine yesterday when my Father-In-Law couldn't figure out what was triggering the E-4 error code. I didn't even need the internet to figure out that the front load machine doesn't work unless the door is closed.:facepalm::facepalm:

Hopefully getting the SSID's changed has helped a little - I did see that you are allowed 10 connected devices on 2.4GHz & 10 connected devices on 5GHz allowing for 20 total. Not all devices are 5GHz compatible so I would save 2.4GHz for devices that need to be connected on the same frequency.

I don't know if connecting a wifi-router would let you circumvent the 10 connected devices per frequency limit but I at least understand what you were trying to do.

Since you were not having any luck connecting ethernet from AT&T Lan port to Apple Wifi Wan port I would have to do a little more research. I know you can connect to a second router but I'm not sure why it is not working.

Here is a link to the manual to your at&t device - This is not a tranny roll
https://www.att.com/ecms/dam/att/devicesupport/5000-5499/5174/ATT-WirelessInternet-MF279.pdf

Connect Other Devices You can simultaneously connect up to ten (10) devices per Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), twenty (20) total, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops, to your AT&T Wireless Internet device.

This is a link that looks the same as above but it is indeed a tranny roll

Let me know how things are going and sure hope you have a happy New Year

Thank you sir. I accidentally figured out I can get 10 at 2.4G and 10 at 5G so I'm working on which need to be which frequency. I still think I should be able to connect that Apple router, but that's a troubleshoot for another day.

Happy New Year, be safe.
