Got the Extra large from discussions with sales guy and listening to guys here, and built into a table a guy at Ace Hardware here builds on the side. Is there a thread here that had discussion about accessories needed and not needed? My biggest question is do I need the Conveggtor or not? What accessory is a must and what can you do without now that you have it? I will take pics on phone and either figure how to post or send to Joker or Jack to help.

You will love it. You need the conveggtor for sure. I just did a turkey for Xmas and you need to do on indirect heat, thats what conveggtor does. You will need staters of course. I have a pizza stone but could do without. I like the big glove. Love my electric thermometer.

Ah welcome to the egg head family!

You are in for some good eating my friend after a bit of practice.. You will need the conveggtor for sure.. but to me the other must have is the cast iron cooking grid. A world of difference and a must have...

I also recommend picking up a Looflighter

This gets the egg going much faster than anything else I have found.

Pizza stone is cool too..

The big Green Egg book is very helpful with some good recipes

Watch how to videos on youtube by Franklin

https://www.youtube.com/user/BBQwithFranklin

Franklin is known for having the best bbq possibly in the world.. He uses a conventional smoker, but you get good information on what kind of wood to use, smoke temps and times. I smoked a brisket in the egg with his guidance and the folks we had over couldnt get enough..

Make yourself some jalapeno/cheese stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp.. One of my favorites

Will be firing up the egg for the big New Years party myself :toast:

Have fun!

Need one of these for sure and the thing that picks up the grate.

I use that tool to pick up the grate. I misplaced that tool once, or my wife did, and I was miserable without it. Very handy.

Maybe not an immediate necessity, but once you start cooking low and slow (i.e. Smoking), I would highly recommend getting a BBQ Guru. I had done research across the internet for a tool like this and the wife caught wind that I wanted one, so she got one for me for xmas. I've done two long cooks with this since, and to be honest, it's changed my life

It saves so much time, frustartion and worry about checking temps on the grill and your meat. It pretty much guarantees a perfect cook. It will also teach you NOT TO TRUST THE BUILT-IN THERMOMETER THAT COMES WITH THE GRILL. (Hint: it's at least 20 degrees off).

Also, I highly, HIGHLY, recommend getting one of these instant read thermometers. It's the fastest, most accurate one out there.

Wine, how much did he charge you to build the table?

Thanks Nick! I will figure pictures out from phone someday. Sorry Deezy, this may or may not be of help.

To answer, the entire Platinum package out of pocket was $1493.00 ( including tax)after getting the conveggtor/plate setter added today, which was $210.00 extra paid today I think Angela said? That made total $1493.00 with two transactions, setup, delivery, Table is built by the Ace guy and his portion is somewhere in that. They threw in the wheels and castors, which were $90 normally. Delivered by guy who built it for $25. Love the wheels to be able to go anywhere on the deck, depending on time of year.

Ash tool, grill gripper, charcoal, porcelain v rack, electric charcoal lighter, 2 gloves, and cover were all in the package.

Which one of the temp control instruments did you get from BBQ guru? Thanks for the help.
