Bo Van Pelt -125 over Woody Austin

Woody has played like 6 or 7 events in a row. He played really badly last week (still making the cut). Bo seems to be on form. He must have worked on his game the week off of the open. He was #1 in putting last week.. and made a ton of birdies. The only reason I dont really like this play is because Bo struggles with this course ( although he was near the lead after rd 2 last year)

Bob Tway -115 over Pablo Martin

Tway has made the cut 13 out of 15 times here and in 50% of those events hes gotten a top 20. Pablo is making his pga tour debut sans the open. We saw how well List did. I expect this one to cash by Friday.

Fred Funk -110 over Ryan Moore

Funk was 4th in fairways and 5th in greens last week. His record here is crazy good. He is on a mission to make the President Cups Team. The greens here are huge and flat. So you gotta think freddy will have a ton of opportunities for birdies. Moore really struggled on the weekend and his ball striking was bland at best. He also missed the cut the one time he played here

This is a 6 unit play!! (3 - 1 - 2 on these on the year.. last one won by 18 shots) :00x27

Date: June 28 ? July 1, 2007
Location: Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club ? Grand Blanc, MI
2006 Champion: Tiger Woods
FedEx Cup points: 25,000
2007 Purse: $4.9 million ($882,000 and a new Buick to winner)

2006 Recap
Sixes were wild for Tiger Woods, as the world's best player used four straight rounds of six-under 66 to easily win his his 50th career PGA TOUR title. Woods teed off on Sunday with a two-shot lead and quickly put to rest any hopes that Jim Furyk might catch him by making four birdies on the front nine. Furyk shot a 64 on Sunday but was well back of tiger at 21-under for the week. Joe Durant was alone in third place, one stroke ahead of Scott Verplank, Vaughn Taylor, and Sean O'Hair.

2005 Recap
Vijay Singh shot a combined 22-under-par the first three rounds at Warwick Hills, then coasted to a four-stroke victory over Tiger Woods and Zach Johnson. In doing so, Singh successfully defended his Buick Open title from the year before and became the tournament's first three-time winner. Woods gave the gallery a thrill by firing a six-under 30 on his final nine holes, including an eagle at the par-4 14th hole. But Singh never faltered and ended up winning easily.

The Course
At 7,127 yards, the par-72 Warwick Hills layout doesn't require exceptional distance off the tee, but the list of recent winners (Singh, Furyk, Woods, Perry) shows that more often than not, it reveals the best the PGA Tour has to offer. Going low will be paramount, as the winning score has exceeded 20-under-par each of the past four years and Singh set a career-best in 2005 by making 28 birdies in 72 holes. Because of the large putting surfaces, hitting greens in regulation likely won't be as important as rolling the ball into the hole once the players are dancing.

The Field
It wouldn't do fantasy golfers much good to play their top draft pick when he doesn't plan on teeing it up, which is why fantasy owners have to be very cognizant of who is playing each week. As a courtesy, we've provided this link to the official field as provided by PGATOUR.com.

Note: It's a good idea to check this list for the official field of players again on Wednesday, as it is not unusual for golfers to drop out of tournaments in the days leading up the first round.

Okay, so maybe Elaine was wrong and Leo Tolstoy didn't really intend to label his masterpiece "War, What is it Good For," but the question can be asked this week of Warwick Hills, simply because so few of the world's best golfers will be teeing it up this week in the Midwest. Tiger and Vijay own the last three titles at this event, but with Woods off changing diapers and Singh MIA, the field is looking a tad thin in Grand Blanc this week. What we can say with absolute certainty is that Warwick Hills is, in fact, good for plenty of low scores, as a quick glance at the historical results of this event can attest. Who will go low this week? We're glad you asked.

The Favorites
If Jim Furyk doesn't win this tournament, something has gone drastically wrong. The 2003 Buick Open champ hasn't dropped out of the top six in the last four years and hasn't finished worse than T16 since 1997. With Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh opting out of this year's proceedings, and considering Furyk has finished second place in two of his last three tournaments coming into this week, very little stands in the way of Furyk and his first 2007 title. If anyone can give Furyk a run for his money, it could be Sean O'Hair. O'Hair has lost some luster after finishing T46 at St. Jude and missing the cut at the U.S. Open, but he finishes of T4 and T8 in his only two trips to Warwick Hills are a clear sign that he likes this golf course a lot. Scott Verplank figures to factor into the mix as well. The 1998 Buick Open runner-up tied for fourth place last year and is riding a three-tournament streak during which he hasn't finished worse than T8, including an impressive T7 two weeks ago at the Open.

The Best of the Rest
With so little to choose from this week, fantasy owners might be best advised to turn back the clock. 51-year-old Fred Funk is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Travelers a week ago and boasts six top-10 finishes on his Buick Open resume, including g a T2 in 2002. Fellow fogey Tom Lehman has finished T6 or better in two of his last three PGA TOUR starts. He hasn't made a regular habit of venturing to Grand Blanc for this event, but he carded top 10s in 1994 and 1995 before tying for second place in 1999. He's played just once since that runner-up, but he could make some noise this week. Kenny Perry isn't quite as ancient as Funk and Lehman, but he's no spring chicken either. Perry was given up and left for dead for about two years, but has shown signs of life in his last two tournaments; a T3 at the Memorial and a T15 last week at the Travelers. The 2001 Buick Open champ clearly knows how to navigate Warwick Hills, as he's finished worse than T15 just once in his last six trips to Michigan.

Who's Hot?
Brandt Snedeker: Snedeker has been all over the map in his rookie season on TOUR, but he has four top-30 finishes in his last five events, including a T5 at the St. Jude and an impressive T23 at the U.S. Open.

Kenny Perry: After a slump that's lasted nearly two years, is Perry starting to get back on track? The veteran has finishes of T3 and T15 in his last two events and has shot in the 60s five times in his last eight rounds.

Who's Not?
Vaughn Taylor: Since tying for fourth at the Verizon Heritage in April, Taylor has either missed the cut or been forced to withdraw in five of his last six events. The one time he stuck around for the weekend in that span, he tied for 46th place.

Brett Wetterich: Brett looked to be putting together a fine season at the end of April, but since then he's missed the cut thrice and failed to top T52 in his six most recent tournaments.

Player Trends
It's not a fool-proof indicator of future success, but golfers who fare well at a particular venue tend to do so time and again. With that in mind, we provide a list of players who have notable trends at this week's event (most recent results are listed first).

The Good
Sean O'Hair (T4, T8 in only two appearances)
Fred Funk (six top 10s in 16 trips to Grand Blanc)
Kenny Perry (2001 Champ has fallen out of top 16 just once in last six appearances)
Craig Barlow (T11, T8, T12)
Brian Gay (T15, Cut, T24, Cut, T2, T6)

The Bad
Brett Wetterich (Cut, Cut, T43)
Tim Petrovic (Cut, Cut, Cut)
Dean Wilson (Cut, Cut, 75)
Lee Janzen (no top 10s in 10 appearances)
Rod Pampling (T70, T66, T39, T54)

The Ugly
Billy Mayfair (one top 10 in 16 trips to Warwick Hills)

The News
Vaughn Taylor and Brett Wetterich have both withdrawn from the Buick Open this week.

Our View
No reason has been given for the withdrawal, but the absence of both makes a watered-down field this week in Michigan even weaker.

Seeing as though the books I deal thru dont have the Funk/Moore matchup I would suggest that my choice of bet is not a matter of preference over the Funk/Moore matchup (which I also like), rather a simple perception of value on my part in the Henry/Moore matchup.

Good luck to you too champ.

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
Outrights:

A couple of internet golf cappers were chatting and their comments were, "I have looked and looked at this event and can find no inspiration whatsoever - sometimes you get an event like this and at these times there is no point betting just for the sake of it," and, "Hard to find anything but obliged to come up with something." Well put, but so is the observation that just as the players can look and feel hopelessly lost on Wednesday and then produce the best week of their career, so to can you cash the biggest damn golf wagers of your life about the time you least expect them.

So . . . Close to after-timing to say I was fairly enthusiastic about both my slates from last week, but I was; this week I'm not yet feeling like I'm tapped into anything juicy; hopefully that will have changed when the sun sets on Friday (very, very, very, very rare for me to even attempt to assess how I'm doing on the week until that point). Although I still don't have Top 5 lines yet to finalize any wagers (you heard that right), two fellas I'm committed to are . . .

Tom Lehman(50/1) e.w.
- - Caught snippets of his play last week, and he seemed in a good enough place. Then the television announcer said Tom's caddy has been saying Tom might be putting the best he ever has, and he just needs to start hitting the ball a little bit better to really make some noise. So I'm looking in his direction this week, and I see that for whatever reason, a change of schedule or a bounce in his step or whatever, he's coming to a "Minnesota-like" venue that he usually passes on, and the caddy chatter tells a far different story than his stat lines, so I say that's going to be a play for your humble narrator.

Justin Leonard(150/1) e.w.
- - Being stubborn maybe, but I've been expecting an upturn, and these odds with the former champion stalking the premises are very agreeable to me even if I already had been backing a large slate.

But it's not helping matters that I'm not enamored with either of their draws.

I'll probably decide not to give up on Kenny Perry, and Brandt Snedeker, Brian Davis, Brett Quigley, Ken Duke, J.J. Henry and Will Mackenzie are among the names that could end up in the fold.

LIA me and you are on the same page again. Toms results have been solid lately. I think he will play these next few weeks then prepare for the ryder cup. That being said I caught that comment also. Good Luck. This tournament here if Furyk doesnt win I expect someone in the 50+ range to win..

I also love Snedkers game. He is great at 3 putt avoidance.

Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Jim Furyk to win 11/2 @ Centrebet
Had been a no-play at 5/1, but just creeps into the marginally acceptable odds range at 11/2. His impressive record at Warwick Hills is well-documented: his last 33 rounds at this course have been under par with six consecutive top-10 finishes and if Tiger Woods had been absent last year as he is this year, he would have won his 2nd Buick Open title in four years. In his own words, "I'm going to show up and play the golf courses where I feel I have the best chances, and this would be one of them." After runners-up finishes in two of his last three events - one of them was via a playoff and the other should have been in a playoff - his usual determination will be heightened somewhat this week. After all, he does have to atone that choice of club on the 17th tee at Oakmont!

Kenny Perry to win 28/1 @ Five Dimes and Centrebet (0.5pts) & to finish in the top-five 5/1 @ Five Dimes (ties paid in full)
He really should have been a profitable pick last week. After the weight loss and the tip at the Memorial Tournament that earned him a 3rd place finish that week, he would finish the first round last week in 3rd position, but dropped three shots over the closing holes in the second round and was always on the fringes of contention after that. The form and the confidence is clearly still there, so this should be another week in which he contends for the title. It also helps that he won this title in 2001 and has recorded top-15 finishes in his last three visits. The greens are soft after recent rain and he is a player who can really get on a low scoring streak.

Lucas Glover to win 50/1 e.w. @ SkyBet, Sportingbet, Sporting Odds, William Hill and BetDirect
His form figures are largely uninspiring and that is presumably the reason for these inflated odds despite the poor field. But his recent finishes have included 8th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, 29th (despite a final day over-par round) in the Crowne Plaza Invitational and, most importantly, a 5th place position after the opening round of the U.S. Open. Okay, he shot 80 in the second round and missed the cut by one, but the indications are there that his game is improving. And he was 2nd with one round to play last year. Okay, he shot 72 and finished 15th, but there were two strong mitigating factors: (i) he was playing with Tiger Woods in the final group; and (ii) he ranked 13th in the U.S. Ryder Cup points list with just two more weeks to go, so the pressure to maintain his high finish and virtually secure a place in the Ryder Cup team was immense. Neither of these factors will be present this year, so hopefully he can repeat his form of those first 54 holes.

Gonna try for the first time in a LONG time to post my plays for this tourney. I've had an up and down year.......started out REAL slow, then hit a few top 5's which cultimated into a huge hit on KJ Choi in the Memorial. Have no idea my up/down number on the year, but I would guess I am up just a touch on the strength of that win.....but that is neither here nor there........here is this week:

All plays at thegreek.....

Furyk: To win at +500: Originally I thought I may just put like 300 bucks on him to win and call it a day, but I am pretty much just using him as an insurance policy this week. I like a handful of players, but if the strong possibility of Jim winning this tournament comes true, I will likely win a couple crumbs, but no windfall.

O'Hair to win at 28-1: I am no early bettor by any stretch, but if there is one thing I have learned, that is that if you see a number that you like on theGreek, you better bet it NOW or you will get shut out. The monent I placed my bet for O'Hair, they dropped the line to 20-1, and now it stands at 15-1, which I think is unbettable, but I am more than happy with my 28-1 number. This should be an interesting stretch for O'Hair who plays this week, and then in two weeks, plays in the John Deere where he has won already. Sean is one of the premier drivers of the ball, and on a course where there are at least 6 holes that you can attack and go low on with a long, straight drive, Sean looks to have a great chance.

JJ Henry to win at 30-1 and Top 5 at 6-1: This was a play I added at the last minute. More of a scared play......as I capped him to play well, ad if I left him off my card, I'd kick myself. JJ has the pedigree to play well in this event, as he has the length to dominate the Par 5's......but this was a play that was made simply because he seems to be coming into form, proofed by his 6th all around ranking last week, and fabulous final round last week. Always keeps the ball in play, and with that, should give himself a chance this week if he can get his putter going.

Tom Lehman win at 50-1, Top 5 at +1000 and Top 10 at +417: Really like his chances this week, even on a course he hasnt played in almost a decade. Tom is going to drive it long and straight, and when he is playing his best, he gives himself a lot of birdie chances with his ideal iron game. As everyone knows, his story is always behind the putter.....and since this week's course really poses little threat as far as greens are concerned (they are relatively flat) this should help him big time. One thing, i am confident in, is that if Tom is in contention Saturday morning, he should be there come Sunday afternoon.

Charles Warren win at 80-1, Top 5 at 16-1 and Top 5 at +667: This guy simply owes me a lot of money. I've been on him a number of times, only to have him explode on a few holes and fade away into a 40ish finish. I think I've figured him out though......you have to bet on him on courses like these. The guy hits it long and straight from the tee, and even gets on in regulation relatively close to the hole.....he even mades a lot of birdies.....but the guys scrambles like crap. Put him on a tough course, and he will inevitably blow it with a double here......a bogey there, all of a sudden the guy is mediocre. But this week's course should pose few problems for Charles. He should be able to contend in what should be a birdie race.

Steve Marino win at 80-1, Top 5 at 16-1 and Top 10 at +667: I really hated to see his face on PGATour.com on Tuesday morning. I had already capped him as my little sleeper this week. Then they go and blow it.....I'm sure he wont even make the cut now, but I have to go with my original gut. Guy is in great form, hits it a mile, thus should be able to kill the Par 5's, and like most young players of his caliber, shouldnt have to worry too much about scrambling around. If he can play the Par 5's great, he should be able to attack a lot of the Par 4's on this course with short irons with his massive length.

Thats all for me!

Good luck guys
