I know this is fairly common...... The surgeon has recommended that I have surgery on C4 for replacement? I want to put this off for as long as possible, my arm/hand are numb due to this and the Dr says mine is severe. Has anyone had this surgery? Should I go through with it? or should I avoid? Any alternatives out there that you have had success with? Opinions are appreciated.......:0008

I had L2 back in 2014.

Recovery time was about a week until I could drive. Couldn?t lift anything over 10lbs for two weeks. Painkillers were my best friend for a full week. Kind of addictive. I loved watching movies on Percocet.

I was in hospital overnight. Doc said paralyzation was a possibility, but minimal risk. Had A LOT of help from my wife. Made it easier.

Sleeping was difficult, but made easier with painkillers and I have a temperpedic (which I like).
Ask the anesthesiologist for something to relax you before surgery. This drug rules (whatever it is). And say that if you live through the surgery, you?ll give him a good review on Yelp.

That?s all I got. A back surgery is good for 3 strokes and no more. So don?t ask.

Can you still play golf before surgery? Want me to come down for a last 18 before surgery? It?ll be a while till you can play post surgery. Unless you have unlimited refills on painkillers.

I feel responsible for that injury
Set it up bro, and make it sooner.....rather than later :0074

In June of last year wound up in hospital with lower back and then in November my neck put me through what no human should have to go through. Have lost feeling in outer groin area because of back and lose of feeling in part index finger and hand because of neck. Epidural did nothing. Disk eventually worked its way off the nerve while waiting for new year to begin to schedule surgery. Did not even think about my lower back for months because of how intense neck pain was. Now that neck has subsided I again realize the daily lower back pain. Doctor said lumbar fusion was much less effective than cervical. Was told had spine of 60 year old and Im 40. Lucky me I guess. Bottom line is it sucks all the way around and I feel bad for anyone that suffers from a disc on a nerve, as it(and the narcotics) can suck the life out of the strongest man. Not a question of if but when for me so I would love to hear anything you guys have to offer and the outcome of your situation as well Betone. Good luck!

Wow, sounds like you have had a tough go of it man! My issues are more of the numbness in my hand and arm. I will try alternatives first before going under the knife!

Steve, you should talk to Gayle, she's had 2 disk surgeries and sounds like for the same reasons. She made it through both with very little complications.

Will do, I am gonna take my time to make a decision on surgery. The MRI freaked me out, I hate being in tight spaces.....Thanks Jack, stay in touch and I will touch base with you when you get back from your trip :0008

The funny/angering thing with me is I routinely take care of hospitalized people who have far smaller issues than I do yet they don?t work, and I?m bringing them pain meds they don?t need Bc they are liars and bitches. Back stuff is worse than neck. Both suck so bad though. I?m just thankful I can still work and make money to support my family. Hope Betone and uga both get better soon. Joker has done well since his surgery for sure, so good results can happen!

Damn Steve, I hope it all works out. You have too much golf left to play with retirement. Never had a back issue, knock on wood, but I can't imagine the pain it must cause, given I have pulled a muscle in back before, and that alone sucks. Good luck with decision. :0008

They did very little good, after care was terrible. changed the price at last minute, I could go on........They probably do help some, but unless insurance covers it, I'd stay away

Had the surgery first of September, c-4 thru 6 and is supposed to take six months for the bone fusion to occur. A little over 4 months and the bone is fused and I have zero lifting or activity restrictions :00hour

all the numbness in my arm and hand is gone........ I would recommend you research the Orthopedic surgeons to see who has the best reviews, my surgeon did an excellent job. I would also advise anyone who is suffering and on the fence about surgery to have this procedure done. Is amazing what the medical community can do now days :0008
