hey guys,
matchup tonite of 2 decent (not great) west coast teams... Fresno St+3 @ San Diego St (137 total)
Fresno St is one of the few schools (in conf) holding an advantage over SD St in the last 10 meetings (6-4 Fresno).
Of those, 5 were decided by 5 pts or less, and another went to OT... generally speaking, close gm, physical (the refs really do suck usually lol, allow wayyy too much physical play underneath)...
MY thoughts:
*It's a bit of a "down year" for both programs... capable of brilliance, but cannot sustain it
*Aztecs are at home, Viejas Arena is on campus a stones throw from frat houses, and student housing literally..
It's a distinct home court advantage, almost always sell out (or near enuf)... w/fun, crazy student section.
*Aztecs are the best FT shooting team in the conference (heard that when they beat highly ranked Nevada there bk on Feb 20... have also beaten a quality Utah St tm there a few wks earlier...
THEY PLAY MUCH BETTER AT HOME
BUT...
they are NOT a good offensive team.. they WILL play good defense tonite.. they are "lanky".. long spindly arms and legs.. athletic.. but not very good shooters (except for Shackel)...
But that's how they beat Nevada and Ut St (holding them to 57 and 63 respectively)... DEFENSE, and def Rebounding.
Tonight.. I expect more of the same... Aztecs to win a physical, low-scoring game.
