Anyone agree with me that that was a bullshit pass interference call on 4th down in the Neb/MSU game to give Nebraska that win? I realize there are tons of calls that go for or against all of us... just wondering what people thought.

I don't think that was remotely pass interference, and was not the way to call a play that was so important. Great defense in that spot for that kid.

My opinion, only... of course it cost me a wager, but I just hate to see a game decided like that. The kid made a great play, IMO. Probably not being objective with the lost wager...

Nevermind no call, the ball was easily intercepted if not for offensive interference. Kenny Bell basically had the defender in a arm bar.

It was good defense. If you do go back he did hook the receiver's left arm before the ball had gotten there. Earlier in the game I can see the call but at that juncture I don't agree with it.

agree 100%

I didn't care either way who won, but that was an absolute horrible call.

The refs should be ashamed...

I had Nebraska and am a fan, so call me a homer. It was questionable and could have easily been a no-call but it was far from an outrageous call. There was a similar call against Nebraska in the 1st half that lead to some points for Sparty. So I really don't see it being one-sided.

I have never understood this logic when people spout it off. If it is a penalty on play 1, it should be a penalty on the last play of a game. Does your reasoning mean that a holding call that allows a Kickoff Touchdown return on the opening of the game should be called, but not on a punt return late in the 4th quarter?

I'd like to think that marginal calls should not be made in the final moments of a game because it would be better for the players to decide the outcome than the referees. The same opinion many, many sports fans 'spout off'. Go be a douche somewhere else.

So in the ref's rulebook, are 'marginal' calls clearly defined? I didn't realize there were different levels. Do they throw their yellow flags harder or faster for full-blown penalties as opposed to these marginal ones?

I'm just really curious about this. Been watching football quite awhile and even played the sport back in the day at some level or another. Never knew of this concept.

And sorry for being a douche, I figure these type of questions are right up your alley as the resident expert. Douche-exper that is.

You're a douche because you feel the need to use phrases like "spouting off" when someone holds an opinion different than yours. So because I made a statement you don't necessarily agree with, I'm 'spouting off'. Um, ok.

My bad for engaging someone who gets a hard on from arguing, concerning a topic that doesn't have a right or wrong but is merely open to interpretation and opinion.

LMAO at your rulebook analogy. Since in any given sporting event, each and every penalty (or non-penalty) fall within the confines of a written rule. Bases on your argument there would never be any need to have this discussion since rules are rules. There's no ambiguity in how they are written, so surely there's no ambiguity in how the game action occurs and how the rulings come down. You can print out the written rule of law, show a play to 100 experts and get 50 guys say one way and 50 the other. My point is that when it's not a clear cut case the game action should decide the outcome and not the ruling.

good info, I still don't see where you answered when fouls should be called and not. I think what would be best is if we watched a game or two or twenty together. Then you could point them out to me in real time. I think that sounds ideal. We need to get that on the calendar pal.
