I recently read a blog a buying a 1/2 point on NCAAM Sides.

There were about 15 comments. About 5 said "never". About 5 said "always". About 5 said "depending on the situation (spread, Favorite/Dog, tournament/conference game/non-conference, March Madness, etc....).

I would be interested in any thoughts from this forum.

I do it more than I should for "peace of mind" more than anything else......Hate getting beat by the 1/2's especially when playing a game after a line move.......Seems like I have more 1/2 and point loses than most.....On the other hand I read years ago where only 1 out of 20 games land on the NUMBER, based on the math buying the 1/2 isn't a financially good idea if this stat is true. Your "juice " would be eaten up by your 1 out of 20 additional loses. ...I guess it like insuring a dealer's ace when you have 20 in BLACKJACK. LOL

Do the math folks... THe absence of key numbers makes buying points a waste of money. If the game is so close that you have to buy the half pass the game and find another game where you do not have to buy anything....
The math shows it to be a losing proposition in basketball.

On the course!
Never buy points in basketball. Don?t even think of it. You are pissing money away.

This is true.

Basketball is simply not a game where a half point means much. I know you can argue how many times you've been beat by that half, but there is no way it adds up to what you save by not buying it. In fact, I'll go as far as to say you should lay an extra point in most games, and you would make that much more money in the long run.

Basketball, more than any other sport, has the biggest discrepancy between the line, and the actual outcome.
