Does anyone know a specific reason why they're going independent? I think it's a stupid move but maybe this makes it easier for them to jump to another conf when the opportunity arrives.

The reasons floating around today are:

1. Knee-jerk reaction to Utah going to Pac -12.

2. Afraid of staying in MWC with TCU and Boise State.

3. Only for one year, and then they join the new Big XII or whatever it's going to be called.

4. Really think they can have a deal with the BCS like Notre Dame.

I hate it because TCU will be the loser here. Boise St can opt to stay in WAC now.

Joe, I think TCU will in the Big 12 soon. It makes sense for the Big 12 to add them with their success and location. IMO it would help all the Big 12 schools with their DFW recruiting base because kids would know for sure that their families could see them play near home. I don't think the other team will be BYU, I think it will be Arkansas. Ark more than any other team needs the Texas recruits and if they're part of the conference it makes it easier for them to get.(This isn't just for football either, they're basketball has suffered)

UT, A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech and OU all have more living alumni in the DFW area than TCU does. The Big XII has repeatedly said they don't want TCU. The only way TCU joins the Big XII is if UT, A&M and OU leave.

I hate to admit to that, but TCU's best chance is to join the Big East or hope the SEC would like a Texas team since they couldn't get A&M.

I'm sorry to read this because I was hoping that the MWC could be a conference that is equal to some of the "big conferences".

Joe, it's not about TCU's alumni, it's the fact that it would give every Big 12 school big time exposure in the market. I know they all have big time exposure but playing in a market is different than just recruiting there.

The other thing you have to add in is the fact that TCU is great at football right now and the importance of that can't be understated.

I understand what you're saying. I'm just repeating what I've had to hear for a long time now. UT and OU play in Dallas every year. Now that Jerry World hosts college football games, schools like Tech, Baylor and A&M can play in Dallas too. It all comes down to dollars and the powers-that-be have said on numerous occasions that TCU doesn't bring anything to the table in that regard.

I believe TCU would be great for the Big XII, but don't see it happening anytime soon.

BYU is probably leaving because of the shit TV deal the commissioner of the MWC cut 2-3 years ago. I live in Utah and for the life of me I can't usually find any of the MWC games. They should have stayed with ESPN because it is a good conference. BYU puts 63,000 in the stadium each week and has a huge following so they want to keep all the money instead of sharing it with weak sisters like Wyoming and San Diego St.

Roger, I can certainly understand that view but how will they get tv dollars without a conference? I'm sure they do have a pretty good size following but is it big enough to get their own deal? I ask because I don't know, I like BYU but I don't follow them. It seems like a risky move tome. They're not as big of a name as Notre Dame but they're a damn good football team. It's not a great spot for opposing teams to schedule them in between conference games. If they weren't as good of a program I could see them having an easier time scheduling teams. There's no way I would want my team to schedule BYU in late October or November in between key conference games. Like always, this is just my opinion.

If you live in Utah, there is no way you can't find a MWC game... unless you just don't have cable. Utah is about the only state that the mtn has 100% coverage in. The other games are on Vs or CBS College Sports Network.

And ESPN is not a conference. The reason the MWC didn't stay with ESPN is because they were tired of playing on Mon, Tues and Wed games.

Now that Fresno St and Nevada are joining the MWC, BYU may reconsider leaving. We'll see how it all shakes out.
