Between Green Bay and Iowa City
Outrights:

Of course the superb grinders like Zach Johnson and Jim Furyk can do well at Doral (or anywhere), but I'm of the definite opinion that a "modern game" of very aggressive driving, short irons from everywhere, a full arsenal of short game shots, and of course holing putts and scoring on the four Par 5s (as well as an affinity for Florida bermuda and breezes) will stand you in very good stead at Doral vis-a-vis the rest of the field.

Geoff Ogilvy(14/1) e.w.
- - My post from the Match Play Championship:
Geoff Ogilvy(25/1) e.w.
- - I think the things that have been missing most from producing higher finishes since Kapalua have been less than ideal Sunday venues and a little less focus . . . I see upgrades in both areas this week, and I'm an Ogilvyaholic who's won with Ogilvy four times, once in the desert, once in the match play, once for the biggest prize in all of sports, and once this year.
Make that twice in the desert, twice in the Match Play, and twice this year. I need a fairly compelling reason to pick up a winning marker; the opposite of that here.

Rory McIlroy(33/1) e.w.
- - He'll hit some sort of wall or at least a blip before much longer, but right here and now on a course that naturally suits, with familiar Euro stalwarts about, in one of the few places in America to which the teen has a connection, I think I'm getting decent value for my investment.

Aaron Baddeley(80/1) e.w.
- - His wife's pregnancy behind him, and inspiration from his caddy, are among the hints of something in the air, and again I see a very favorable venue and plenty of focus to keep pushing his name in the right direction on the leaderboard.

Louis Oosthuizen(150/1) e.w.
- - He's been on view enough lately that I think I'm right in recalling that his short game has been shining; he can certainly crank it out there and hasn't been afraid to go low. While he was not very sharp in losing to McIlroy at the Match Play, I don't think he's fallen off very far from his best.

Retief Goosen(50/1) e.w.
- - Just the idea of that long putter is off-putting, but I think his game has been trending noticeably for some time, and Doral/Florida would be prime spots for a validation of class.

It always amazes me, no mention of Woods here. Everywhere else, all the media, nothing but Woods.

The guys I like this week are very generic, it just worked out this way, save one. Olgilvy, everyone in the world likes him, why not? He deserves it. Garcia and Choi figure to be close. Tim Clark is my pick.

Tim Clark to win 71.00 sia

I didn't get on him because his odds are higher. He has shown signs of life this year and played Doral nicely the last couple years. Having limited access to the PGA, he could stand to get his full card again. No desperation though, I guess, not yet anyway. Maiden on the PGA, 6 seconds.

Zach Johnson over Els -110 72 holes.

Grinder versus fallen angel. The harder Els tries to regain past glory, the more he's average. Zach will never put 5 birdies in a row together, but somehow gets it done time after time.

Glta as always.

I am going to cede the Tourney to Tiger and make 4 straight up place and show plays. (second place and third place)

McIlroy 15-1 to place, 7 1/2 to show
Scott 15-1 to place, 7 1/2 to show
Poulter 30-1 to place, 15-1 to show
Weekley 40-1 to place, 20-1 to show
(one unit for each of those 8 plays)

best of luck!

Round 1 plays (1pt):

Robert Allenby to beat Steve Stricker -116 @ Bet365
Robert Allenby to beat Padraig Harrington +100 @ Pinnacle [also available @ Boyle Sports and WSEX]
Allenby showed on Sunday why he is such a frustrating player to back in outrights, but he's quite a different proposition in matchups. He has made 30 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour, has five top-5 finishes in his last ten strokeplay events and has a good record on this course (including being the 1st round leader two years ago). Stricker has traditionally struggled on this course and in Florida and is much less consistent, while Pod just looks like a player who will be only motivated by Majors - his last three starts have yielded MDF, MC and a 1st round exit in the World Matchplay.

Kenny Perry to beat Davis Love +105 @ Five Dimes
I can't see why Love is a strong favourite in this matchup. Perry has been the better player for quite a few years and there has been very little evidence of that being reversed this year - e.g. he has already won once (FBR Open) and has two further top-10 finishes; Love has just one.

Louis Oosthuizen to beat Ben Curtis -110 @ Five Dimes
Ousthuizen has played in five strokeplay events in 2009 and has finished in the top-10 in every one. He did lose in the 1st round of the World Matchplay two weeks ago, but that was to Rory McIlroy and he has now had another couple of weeks to get used to American courses.
