Got a notice and local cable is going to raise rates again. $46 for extended basic. Damn!

Been checking into satellite. Dish and Direct. Which one do you guys prefer?

Might consider jolly rogering the signal. I believe Direct is the only one that has been hacked.

I'm able to get my hands on an old Sony Sat-B2 reciever. I've heard you can run emulation and get lots of good programming. I've checked DSS Underground. The guy that runs that site says he's gonna shut it down at the end of the year. Seems to be about the only site up that Dave hasn't taken over. I have to admit, from what little I've come across, sounds a bit complex to set up for a newbie like myself. Do they have something as simple as a programmed smart card without going into emulation or do they get zapped too often to make it viable?

What experience and input can any of you tell me. I realize this might be a sensitive subject and understand if Jack would rather not have this discussion in his forum. If possible get my email from Jack and I might be able to figure this out.

I have a friend who has Dish with PVR as part of the reciever, which is a pretty sweet sweet setup. Their plans start at $22. But then you don't get all the choice programming. :)

Thought I'd just run this by the group. Thanks.

emus and hacked cards imo are more trouble than they are worth, especially if u aren't some kind of "computer geek". I don't even think that the old H stream is out there anymore.

I have to agree with 65, hacking satellites is a pain in the arse to do. I have friends that do it, and they are constanly getting zapped, so they have to re-program. I guess there is a sense of pride and accomplishment in being able to hack your own signal, but it seems like the constant work involved in keeping it working would catch up to you pretty quick. Besides, Directv only costs $38 a month. This includes your local channels if they are available in your area, and $32 if they aren't. I'm not sure, but if your locals aren't available yet, they might give you the closest city that they offer.

I recommend Directv if you decide to get a satellite. EVERYONE I know that has it, loves it. I finally got fed up with our local cable company about a year ago and dropped them. They were charging $53 a month for the cheapest digital package they offered! And that was only one room! Other rooms in the house cost extra! I got Directv and haven't looked back sense. It is soooooo much better than cable. You can even order clothes and chit with your remote! And most importantly, you can pull down the sports ticker whenever YOU are ready.

Welcome to satellite my friend, the decision is easy! :thumb:

If you're paying for it, DTV and DISH are very similar. Both are way better than cable in terms of picture quality and sound. I would look to see if either company carries your local networks though. DISH has more locals available, it all depends on where you live. You can get a package similar to Extended Basic Cable for around 40 bucks.

If you're stealing it, go with DTV. Both are hackable, but DISH is more aggressive in countering piracy. They will fry your receiver making it useless (it is fixable, but not easy). DTV is simple to hack. All you need is a loader and a card. You can download all the software for free. Free scripts won't last very long, but you can buy private ones that last longer, or learn to write your own.

Just do a google search and you will find a crapload of sites. Just be careful where you buy from. Check out message board sites first to see if you are dealing with a reputable dealer.

Go DirecTV....get 2 cards....set one up to where your paying for basic service. Then take your other card and clone your BIN onto the other card and put a Activation script or store the USW Keys from the valid bin to your 3M and write that to your 2nd card. This way you get all the channels...all the NBA, NHL, NFL, NCAA and of course........594-598 little porn action....curtosey of the Spice Network :D

If you are going to pay for anything that deals with hacking...

If you are going to pay for anything that deals with hacking...

...be very careful. These outfits could be stings. I've heard of stings opening up shop and doing business for up to two years before busting anyone. A shop like that could appear very credible. How bad would it suck to hack your dish, then get busted 18 months later? :look:
