MICHIGAN STATE ?13.5 (Saturday) - California is off to a 2-0 start, but those victories came at the expense of bottom dwellers Baylor and New Mexico State. I think that they are in for a dose of reality this week here in East Lansing. Cal has run up its impressive point totals thanks to a nice passing attack that has averaged 267.5 yards per game on 8.6 yards per attempt. However, they will not enjoy similar success vs. the excellent Spartans pass defense, and the Golden Bears are averaging just an inadequate 3.6 yards per rush, which is quite poor considering their weak opponents so far. I look for Michigan State to totally stifle the Bears attack, and also to put up a lot of point themselves. The Spartans are averaging 41.5 point per game so far, and I see them approaching 40 points here again. This looks like a total blowout, as I expect a Michigan State victory of at least 21 points.

MSU only had 58y on 32c v Rice & their 4 2h scoring drives went for a total of 61y! Those drives(?) added 20 pts to a 27-10 win! The Spartans have allowed 225 ypg rushing
which is quite poor considering their weak opponents so far
to EMU & Rice!
The excellent Spartans pass defense
recorded O int's & O sacks in 48 pass attempts v EMU & only defended 11 pass attempts v Rice. Nothing about MSU scares me in this game.

Cal, on the other hand, has a 1st yr coach in his 1st road game! Will he be conservative or go for broke? The Golden Bears have jumped out early & cruised in their wins, so how will they play from behind? Will they be disciplined enough to avoid costly penalties & turnovers away from home?

I think Cal hangs w/in the number v the Spartans, but the home field advantage is too big for MSU.
