Ok, my reasoning
First my concerns:
Butler isn't a solid rebounding team
Hawaii at home usually spells a W for the Bows
Positives:
Butler handles the ball well
Butler shoots the ball well including free throws
Hawaii's defense is not very sound IMO
Butler has been able to win games where they have not shot the ball well due to several intangibles including turnover margin (but not rebounding).
Overall, this is a matchup between two teams that have not faced an opponent as tough as they will tonight. Normally I'd be all over Hawaii in this type of scenerio given they are playing at home on their own rims, but Butler has had two games the past couple days on this court and should negate some of Hawaii's home court advantage including the time the game is being played at since Butler has been on the island for a few days. Butler did not shoot particularly well against Western Kentucky, but I expect this to change against a team that I believe does not play solid D. The Bows seem more content to simply outshoot their opponent instead of playing solid defense as evidenced by the shooting percentage of their last two opponents well above 40%. You can't allow Butler to get a lot of good looks at the bakset or else it will be a very long night. Even if Hawaii outshoots Butler, they can still lose to this Butler team that handles the ball extremely well and shoots free throws very well. Once again, my concerns are rebounding where the edge should favor Hawaii and home cooking from the refs which might prevent Butler from getting to the line as many times as the Bows. But I still feel the ML is a value play here and if Butler shoots the ball well, we should be good shape.
The key matchup IMO will be Shimonovic from Hawaii against Cornette of Butler. . . both big men for their teams and leading rebounders. Can Cornette contain Shimonovic and limit the amount of extra chances Hawaii gets on their offensive end?
