Outright plays (1pt):

Thomas Bjorn to win 16/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes and BlueSq
Siding with three players who play their first event of 2005 in Singapore. Not ideal as rustiness may be an issue, but far better than having played in South Africa last week. Bjorn is simply a player who rediscovered his game at the end of last year with five finishes inside the top-11 in his last six starts and has a great record in this region: 3rd, 2nd, 2nd and 4th in his last four starts in 2004. He may be debuting new clubs this week, but everything else points to a strong week from him.

Arjun Atwal to win 50/1 e.w. @ BetInternet
There is plenty pointing to a good week for Atwal as well. For example, his course form reads 1st (2002) when he won by five shots and 10th (2003). He has finished in the top-10 in five of his last six starts in this region, including two wins - one of which was the co-sanctioned Malaysian Open which he won by four shots from Retief Goosen as a wire-to-wire winner - and finished 6th on the PGA Tour in his penultimate event last year. This looks a generous price for someone with such a good history in these co-sanctioned events.

Barry Lane to win 100/1 e.w. @ BetInternet
Was very tempted by IASBet's 38.5/1 on Damien McGrane to finish in the top-5, but tired after a top-10 finish in South Africa should be too much of a factor. Instead, I'll opt for a player who was also in 2nd place after 36 holes on this course last year. Lane actually went into the final round in the joint lead with Gregory Hanrahan, but faded to finish 5th. With a top-10 finish as well in the China Open at the end of last year, Lane is certainly more competitive than his 100/1 odds suggest. Admittedly, place-only odds would have been preferable, but with only 17/1 at the Expekt the best on offer, the each-way option is adopted here.

Matchup plays (1pt unless stated):

Thongchai Jaidee to beat Arjun Atwal -120 @ SkyBet
Atwal may be an outright selection and Jaidee's course form may be indifferent, but he still dominates in this region. Over the last five years, he holds a 30-12-3 h2h record against Atwal, finishing behind him only twice in the last thirty months. If Atwal doesn't pick up a place win for the outrights, he should finish behind Jaidee in this match.

Thomas Bjorn to beat Graeme McDowell -110 @ Pinnacle [2pts]
McDowell is certainly improving as he plays more events overseas, but he has played just one event in this region when he finished 45th in the Johnnie Walker Classic last year. Quite a contrast with Bjorn?s form in the region, so it is better so side with the Dane in South-East Asia.

I did it again - posting as the event gets underway - I suppose there are some interactive lines that still have action???

Anyway:

OUTRIGHTS:

Nick Dougherty(100/1) e.w. @ 5dimes
Thomas Bjorn(16/1) e.w. @ Bet365
Steve Webster(125/1) e.w. @ 5dimes

The Dougherty play is the only one for which I managed to get my customary wager made - I was planning on still adding to the Bjorn and Webster plays - too late for me now.

Outrights - FINAL RESULT: 1-2; -0.50pts

Bjorn 4th
Atwal mc
Lane 21st

Bjorn was in contention throughout and in the final group over the weekend, but lost any real chance of victory when taking seven at the 2nd hole on Sunday. Finished three shots clear of 5th place, so some return always looks certain.

Matchups - FINAL RESULT: 1-1-0; +0.80pts

Jaidee/Atwal LOST by 1
Bjorn/McDowell WON by 7

Small profit on the plays to bring the overall event into profit. Easy for the Bjorn play, but Jaidee and Atwal were battling for last place, so not exactly what I expected!

4th round results

1. Sold Marantz/Coles at 0.
Coles won by 3 strokes. Profit of 19 units.
(my apologies.....I said in my earlier post that I sold this to be with Marantz. Obviously I sold it to be with Coles and against Marantz)

2. Sold Randhawa/Kjeldsen at 1.
Mach tied. Profit of 1 unit.

Overall profit on this event of 91 units. A nice event, but much needed.
