Several buddies trekked up to Helen, Ga for a weekend of camping, trail hiking, and getting out in the fall weather.
For those that have never been to Helen, GA it is similar to a Germantown and its of an OktoberFest theme.
We hiked out about a 1/2 mile off the beaten path and settled in on the river's bend. First time out there, but must say it was quite a good time.
We went into Helen for most of Saturday to watch the mid day games. Crime must be kind of high in Helen, because it looked as if most men's sleeves had been stolen. I haven't seen that many red necks in one place since I was a child at the tractor pull. (Granny finished second.) Think Vail, CO and then remove the skiing, insert tubing in a river, take the people and put them in red neck attire... And viola, Helen Ga.
Also, I realized that a lot of people sale boiled peanuts for a living. I must have met a dozen of them sitting by the road, just waiting for someone to stop and spend $4 on peanuts... I must say, boied peanuts are a tasty treat with a cold beer. Maybe I'm the sucker of this deal after all...
Seriously though, nothing like a camp fire with friends and weekend out of cell phone range. We sat and drank beer and talked the night away about life in general, sports, and where we were all in life.
The great outdoors.
