Can Big Brown Win Big?
By SPORTSBETTING.COM
How many lengths will he win by? That?s the question that?s been posed at the water cooler all week leading up to Saturday?s Belmont Stakes.
At least at our water cooler that?s been the case and I have to believe many casual and veteran horse racing fans are thinking the same thing. Big Brown has been so impressive in his victories at the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes it is difficult to see any of the other nine horses lined up this weekend beating him to the finish line.
This undefeated 3-year old has won all five of his career starts, and won impressively each time out (a combined 39 lengths in those races). Can this colt win the Triple Crown and topple the Belmont Stakes record of a 31.5 length win, held by the legendary Secretariat? Many believe that a dominating win is very possible.
Big Brown will start from Post 1 and with the early speed he has demonstrated, he could get out front right away to stay out of trouble and never see another horse the whole trip around.
But this is Big Brown?s third race in five weeks and the track is a mile and a half, a distance he hasn?t run before. And he is nursing that quartercrack, although all his handlers, and independent observers, have stated it won?t be a problem.
He?s going to be the big favorite, so most bettors will undoubtedly be looking at how to tie him into some exotics, meaning they need a couple of other horses who they feel can have a special trip on Saturday.
The likely candidate will be Casino Drive, who has the package to challenge Big Brown (great lineage, as he is a half-brother to Belmont Stakes winners Jazil and Rags to Riches, plus he was very fast in his US debut).
Denis of Cork skipped the Preakness after running third in the Kentucky Derby. We like this horse and we really like his jockey for this race, Robbie Albarado, who rode him on his last win.
Also look for Macho Again to be in the mix for one of the top three spots after finishing second at the Preakness.
Every once in awhile sports fans have an opportunity to witness history; a perfect game in baseball, an undefeated regular season in the NFL and a tennis player taking home the Grand Slam and this weekend it is the chance to see a Triple Crown winner.
Tune in and watch it all unfold
