BetCRIS Sportsbook Posts odds on Michelle Wie Qualifying for the Men?s U.S. Open in Golf

May 22, New York ? The now 16 year old, Michelle Wie, has been playing golf against men since the age of 12. However, what she is trying to attempt next has never been done before by a female golfer; qualify for the men?s U.S. Open.

She took a huge step earlier this week in winning her local qualifier by shooting an even par 72. Wie and two other players advanced to sectional play next month, with Wie saying she will play in the June 5th, 36-hole sectional at Canoe Brook in Summit, N.J.

Can she do the impossible? BetCRIS Sportsbook posted odds on Michelle Wie qualifying for the 2006 men?s U.S. Open.

Will Michelle Wie qualify for the men?s U.S. Open?

Yes 6.75 to 1
No 1 to 10

?It is only a matter of time before Michelle Wie not only qualifies for a men?s major but also wins a men?s tournament,? said BetCRIS CEO, Mickey Richardson. ?She?s only 16 and can drive the ball as far as Tiger Woods. Like I said, it?s only a matter of time.?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I think he's looking for some Wie money Jack--books strarted out with hype winning out and having her around -150 to make cut finally was about about 1/4 till they finally quit putting up odds.
IF--she continuely gets exemptions there will be some point in time she makes cut on major tour--but as far as being competative (chance of finishing top 10) she can forget it. Her chances of making cut ever would be huge if she had to qualify 1st as most do.--and don't believe the hype on her drives--she's not even longest on lpga--here are how her stats panned out vs field at Sony this year---her stats are 1st and field ave 2nd.
Driving Distance (All Drives) 267.5 275.3
Driving Accuracy 64% 54%
Greens In Regulation 53% 59%
Putts Per Round 31.00 28.97
Average Putt Made 3 ft 4 in 4 ft 10 in
Par 3 Average 3.38 3.02
Par 4 Average 4.29 4.17
Par 5 Average 4.75 4.56

The biggest diff between Wie and several other gals is her marketing firm which is not a sports marketing firm like other players but a movie star marketing firm--they sell the sizzle not the steak--and have suceeded beyond belief..
How good is a marketing firm that arranges appearannce fee in excess of entire purse of tourney for a 2 day and cut performance.

Put her on Bethpage in U.S. Open setup from tips and I doubt she could bust 78 in her lifetime.

bottom line--some find it hard to believe women are just built different--and I'm glad of it--

I have seen her play a few times and i know that she hits the ball far period, and pretty straight. She has a strong powerful swing. She is also like 6ft tall if i recall. But..... Ive seen Tiger hit the ball 350 and Tiger is 6ft of muscle and prolly has 150mph swing speed when he wants to clobber it.

This is just a flat out lie that anyone who has seen the two play more than once is well aware of, that Michelle Wie hits the ball as far as Tiger Woods. This is so far from the truth that this is a laughable joke.

Hell I hit the ball as far as Tiger once or twice around (300 and some change) but Im not going to say I hit the ball as far as Tiger Woods.

Take 67 times the amount you were going to wager on Michelle Wie qualifying for the US Open and put it on her 1 to 10 not qualifying cause that is a sure bet. She is just too inconsistent for a course that requires consistency.

DTB, I respect your opinion, but as you know we differ in opinion on this one. I dont think she can compete with the men on a mans course, but send them to her tourney and she would have a very good shot. The courses these guys play are just too freaking long now. I think she has a 1-4 chance of qualifying though. She made the semis last year right?

just noticed this thread, and I must comment....

Michelle Wie has absolutely NO F'n chance of qualifiing for the US Open, not matter what course or location she plays.

Most people have no idea how good a player one must be to play on the tour. Most of the current tour players could give her 3 a side and waltz with it. She is a very good WOMAN golfer. She will be a standout (maybe) on the ladies tour, and just maybe a star (in due time). But to say she can compete with the best players in the world on Championship layouts is ludicrous.

More than one male golfer with less game and less seasoning than a 16 year old Wie has found a zone and progressed through two stages of qualifying to the first tee of a U.S. Open in the last 10 years - I have no doubt of that fact. Nathaniel Crosby wasn't much older when he won a U.S. Amateur, a feat which has to be at least five times as difficult and about ten times twice as unlikely.

Yes, that is a resonable example. And Yes, I've seen some unlikely players qualify. But once past the 36 qualifing rounds, Nathaniel only had to beat 5 other players, in match play, to win the Amateur.....not a full field of professionals.

The odds are astronomical of her qualifing....the one thing she has going for her is the ability to hit her tee shots fairly straight. Open qualifing courses tend to have a bit of rough and lighting fast greens....a combination that is typical of Open courses and requires unique skills not found on local muni's or most private C.C's. ...Hawaii included.

I doubt Wie could have passed the 1st stage at any location other than the Hawaii course she chose.

She didnt qualify, but she didnt disgrace herself either. So some credit to her.

She will probably do it one day, given the fact she looks like trying annually.

On the course!
I saw the highlights of her try, and she can move the ball around the course quite well. The one constant she seems to have in these events, is shitty finishing ability. (I would guess that has to be all upstairs, and will change with time.)

Also, I have never seen anyone blow more two foot putts in my life!

The saddest thing about this dog and pony show? Any of you ever hear of Tadd Fujikawa?

That's what I said, too.

Yeah........no one has ever heard of this 15 year old, and yet he did qualify for the US Open this week!

He's only 5' 1", so if he fails as a golfer, he can be a child molester in Nebraska, and not worry about jail time!
