Can someone explain to me why Illinois is minus 8 vs Wisconsin?

haha…not so much a question but an observation. My terps laying 1 today at home against Ohio state is interesting. I feel like this is one of those make or break games the terps are facing. They’ve lost 5/7 only beating 2 scrub teams at home while getting killed by ucla at home and Michigan and Rutgers on the road. They had been rolling up until they beat Illinois and then they lose respectably on the road to Wisconsin and Tennessee on a neutral court. This game will tell a lot about this team. Ohio state hasn’t played many road games..: they lost to Duke by 9 and north Carolina by 5 in ot and beat northwestern by 16. They just lost a close one to number 1 Purdue at home by 2. I’ve seen 2 very different maryland teams and it’s hard to predict which will show up. Recent games show Ohio state is the pick but Maryland has something to prove today at home where they are a much better team. (The ucla game aside) I personally expected Ohio state to be a small favorite so the books installing Maryland as the chalk after the bad run they’ve been on should tell us something.
Edit: As an aside- I winded up laying off the Wisconsin game yesterday but my friend switched his bet to Wisconsin because of me. Even bought them up to 9 for insurance. Ouch. I was like why stop at 9? Why not just pay the extra juice and make it an even 5 possession game with 10 points. Such is betting I guess.
