ya never know at the border...could take all of 30 seconds...or hours.....

as for your "shopping question"........not quite sure....I'm Canadian and only have to worry heading back into Canada....I'm not sure on amount of goods you can bring back into the US and not pay duty.......but I can tell you that it depends on how long you stay in Canada. And make sure ya stop at DUTY FREE......great deals:)

Dan, I find the lines take alot longer than the "clearing" of customs. If you are bringing anything with you (eg. gifts or booze) you will have to pay a small tax on that valuation,it's a pain as you have to pull over and do some paperwork,so I would avoid this if you can. I find the old "Yes Sir, No Sir .Just on holiday for a few days ". Short and Sweet answers usually are good enough. These days it sure isn't worth trying to smuggle a $24 bottle in,it just leads to a real headache.
Try to avoid the peak hours when you are crossing over,it can be slow on Friday nights.
Make sure you hit the Casino, they give you a pretty fair exchange rate (about $1.46 these days)..
I just try to tell the truth (as close as I can )and make it sound truthfull, and I sail right through ( it helps not looking as if you don't know what a razor is ).
Good luck, have fun and Rock On......
Spanky..;)

Very Funny FDC:thefinger .I was going to bring a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue and a good bottle of champagne with me when I take my wife there in August but I guess I will leave them home.I dont see the point of filling out paperwork for booze.Glad to hear your new job is going well. :moon:
