This is the marquee matchup of the week and havent heard anybody check in yet with a take on it.....Canes have handled them pretty easily in 2000 Sugar Bowl as well as few times before that, I will have a pick later in the week probably a "tv game" bet at minnimum unless i can dig up some good info here and form a good opinion..so far as the line being florida -2, its under the 3 maybe the man wants u to bet florida but i dont know.,...Everyone post opinions and selections and general takes about this game here so can keep checkin up on them, happy cappin everyone and g luck saturday

UF all the way.

Inexperience in the Miami backfield vs. the receivers from Florida - this is a mismatch.

Also think of this. Miami has one game to go by on Ed Z's offense. One game. And how much about their off./def. game plans did UF reveal against UAB? Obviously UF is not going to showcase every scheme in the books, and most likely only showed very little.

Going to add here to keep thing simple

Miami (1 - 0) at Florida (1 - 0)
Week 2 Saturday, 9/7/2002 5:05 PM

The early season game of the year as these two national powers meet for the first time in the regular season since ?87. Miami did beat Florida 37-20 as a 6 point favorite in the 2000 Sugar Bowl, however. The line should be key here as each team has been a dog just once over the L2 years. Florida is 9-3 ATS in its L12 at home, Miami was 2-3 ATS on the road in 2001.

Play On - Home favorites (FLORIDA) - after scoring 50 points or more last game.
(124-76 ATS) (62%, +40.4 units. Rating = 3 stars)

Play Against - Road underdogs of 7 points or less (MIAMI) - after gaining 6.75 or more yards/play in their previous game.
(78-50 ATS) (60.9%, +23 units. Rating = 2 stars)

FOR SOME REASON I DON'T THINK ALL THE PAST HISTORY AND STATS MEAN ANYTHING IN THIS GAME--NEW COACH, ETC. EARLY GAME--STILL LIKE FLORIDA--WORRIED BOUT MIAMI'S LINE

personally, i can't see how you can get excited about taking a team under a new coach and laying points to the defending national champs that feature one of the most talented passing qb's in the country. i see this game shaping up to be a hard fought contest that goes to the team that comes out ahead in the turnover column. spurrier quit scheduling the 'canes because they cost him too many nat'l championships by beating him in the swamp, and as a consequence, beating him afterwards in the florida high school recruiting wars.

IMO, this game is a total waste of handicapping thought, time and energy.

With 48 games on the card, not to mention totals, trying to handicap the top two talented teams in the nation playing on national tv in what is probably the highest profile game of the year is "Futility 101"

Go Gators!

:D

you better be very worried about miami's front 8 that's line an linebackers on deff.

You also need to worry about a coach that has not been a head coach in a big game, say what you want the cains are still the cains and fl has had 2 and 3 losses each of the last 3 years yes i like fl because they put money in my pocket but miami is still the number 1 team till they get beat and i will take the edge in coaching. and the pass rush they will bring.

Fletcher,
Is that one year of coaching experience that big in importance? I mean Coker took over a talented team last year and went all the way. Is Florida's team -- in your view-- lacking that much in talent as compared to this year's Gator squad that you give the edge a 2nd year coach?
You know I always respect your work and know you are a former BB coach so I am asking to cure my curiousity.

Thanks.

I think it is. And even more the foot steps he has to walk in.

This is not like a non pressure pack game. After this game is over 1 of these top teams will have a loss and they both play fsu. So who ever does not win this game will have a very tuff time getting to the big game.

When you are a new coach and in a game like this mistakes are easy to make.

Miami's coach was tested a few times last year in tuff games and he made the right calls after a few bad ones then he won the big one.

so yes his 1 year is huge imo.
