I was looking for some advice on how to cap college hoops.. I have been doing college foots for a couple of years now and have learned the angles of that sport decentley. In football I can see the difference in the teams, the schemes they run offensivley and definsively and have a pretty good knack for how teams will match up with each other based on previous opponents etc... however, in b-ball i feel clueless.. I read the write-ups of the good posters on hoops, but I was wondering if i could get some advice on where to start when capping b-ball.. I have a lot more trouble analyzing the matchups in b-ball and was looking for some introductory advice.. I really only have a good handle on 2 teams and that is the buckeyes, and indiana... Any advice would be great.. thanks

Go to Gamblers book club .com and order the blue ribbon yearbook for college basketball. It tells you the returning starters for each team in division 1a as well as ranking frontcourt backcourt, depth, and coaching etc. Also look at line movements. The books do make mistakes in some of the small college games.

One thing that you can do which is very helpful is follow each teams university website and read the game previews, coaches comments, injury info, etc.

Takes a good chunk of time, especially on days when there are 30+ games, but it's pretty useful.

Not a bad idea to limit your capping field to your two teams and maybe 2-3 others...any small local Div I schools that you can track...Akron or any MAC schools? Lines on the smaller schools are often off a bit.

Even if you only follow just a few local teams, there are enough games that you can get at least one play every night.

One difference in hoops vs football is that teams don't have six days to prepare...many more games and its easy to catch another team flat, especially on the road.

But just like foots, don't bet on bad teams, especially those that can't make FTs.:) Fletcher told me once that FT shooting is a sign that a team practices fundamentals...which is what ultimately wins games.

Good luck.
