So, I got this bright idea to Armor all the inside of my 2002 Toyota Camry. Of course, I twisted the steering wheel and it locked up. I can't get the steering wheel unlocked and the f'ng anti-theft alarm is going off every time I try to unlock it and start it. I read how to re-set the alarm system, it does everything it's supposed to, but then when I try to start it and unlock the steering wheel, it sets the alarm off again.

Something else weird is that when it's on (not running, but the lights, etc...are on) the clock is off by one hour...

Can anyone help? I really don't want to have to tow it to the dealership when it's a matter of getting it unlocked or restarted or whatever.

Thanks in advance.

maybe unhook the battery cable?....then rehook it back up...might just reset everything for you...

Yes, Bart, I'm causing trouble.

Wease, I'm not capable of removing anything from the car. I will blow myself up.

snafu - I've tried turning it right, left, etc...nothing but setting the alarm off. From what i've read it looks like the anti-theft device has to have the proper code put in to "restart" the device. Which, of course, means towing it to the dealership so they can spend 3 seconds doing that while I pay $100. That is so retarded that a person can't reset their own code, if I understand this right.

don`t you have any guys around there that can help?...all you have to do is loosen the bolt on the (positive)battery cable, lift it off the terminal...and then set it back on the terminal and re-tighten it...

no guys around that can help?...it takes around a minute...

#10 metric...or

small adjustable..

book calls for 10 min. wait..

steering wheel should release ..

reconnect...start engine...

may be a little ruff because without a memory card in the cig lighter..

simple disconnect again and leave off 10 more min.s

should return to preset idle..

Thanks, guys, for trying. The sad part is my dad is here and he's more incompetent than I am when it comes to these issues. :mj07: (How any guy that age doesn't know anything about car is beyond me)....

No worries, got a guy friend coming in the morning. It's just frustrating b/c I know there's nothing wrong but the stupid restart thing.

Thanks again.

WOO HOO! After a nice hot bath, I stepped out to try it one more time. Slid the steering wheel to the far left, turned the key and after stuttering a couple times, it started! So, it was just locked all along. It's been a bit hard to unlock but never that hard. Very annoying. On the good side, I was able to follow directions of how to reset the anti-theft device.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help. Also, if you are dads, teach your kids (boys AND girls) some basic car things. It is immeasurably frustrating to deal with basic shit and not be able to do it. My brothers are equally incompetent. I'd love to actually learn but no guys I hang around know anything either...lol.

Happy New Year!

YES, it's his fault. I don't like stereotypes, but how many men that are like 70 don't know shit about cars? My mom and I send him the opposite way from anything mechanical because he just fukks it up worse. He knows this. He's good for other things, like lifting heavy boxes and cooking. Just don't let him touch anything that's messed up. The worst part is he still opens his mouth and tries to "help" when it's more than obvious he doesn't know WTF he's talking about!
