CASEY FLAIR: Locos hoping for repeat of New York success to take Redwoods, championship
Editor's note: Former UNLV wide receiver Casey Flair writes a weekly journal for the Las Vegas Review-Journal as a member of the Locomotives of the United Football League:

Last week certainly was a nice turnaround for the team from the week before as we won our game against the New York Sentinels, 41-10. It is never easy to win on the road, but we did split this road trip (the win preceded by a loss at the Florida Tuskers) and that made the plane ride back to Arizona more enjoyable. We are now 2-2 for the season.

As good as we feel about rebounding from that tough Tuskers loss, we know that we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. In fact, we probably have to win our last two games to make it to the first UFL Championship game in a couple weeks. Coach is reminding us that it is ours if we want it but that we have to stay focused and put in the work on the practice field. Some things never change.

Next up Saturday is the California Redwoods, who we played in the opening game of the UFL season. We may have beaten them once but, again, we will have to play like we did in New York. That was an amazing offensive game; we scored touchdowns or field goals in every quarter and scored on seven consecutive possessions. We also played great defense, and Brandon Moore made many tackles and even had a sack. Really impressive, I thought. The game's outcome was really never in question, but the Sentinels have struggled this year so we know it will be different with the Redwoods on Saturday.

We are so excited to be in control of our destiny because if we beat the Redwoods in San Jose on Saturday, we qualify for the championship game no matter what happens because we will have beaten them twice. How exciting it would be for the Locomotives to get another chance against the Florida Tuskers the day after Thanksgiving in Sam Boyd Stadium. That would be a dream come true for me, to have family and friends there, not to mention thousands of screaming Locos, going ?loco.?

I?m just glad that we are back out West and will be staying here through the rest of the season. As I said last week, it is much harder to be traveling and staying in hotels and still trying to focus on your job. The temperatures have cooled down a bit here in Casa Grande and practices remind me of what I remember from my Rebels days.

For all of my teammates, we are excited to return to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks and we thank you for your great support. We will need it to win that last game against New York at Sam Boyd.

My quote this week: ?Every week you are either getting better or getting worse as you never stay the same, so COMPETE!?
