calgary should get back on track with this game:

Ottawa Renegades probably deserved a better fate than the outcome of last Saturday?s home match with the Argos. They led Toronto 22-16 after three quarters, but then, an old problem cropped up. Ottawa was outscored 14-3 in the final frame, and the Renegades lost their sixth in a row, 30-25.
Starting QB Chuck Clements, the former University of Houston Cougar got the start in place of the struggling Dan Crowley. Much was made of the fact heading into the game, that Ottawa had some huge inside slotbacks for Clements to throw to: 6-foot-4 Nigel Williams, and 6-foot-5 Malcolm Johnson.
However, Clements managed to throw the ball four times to Johnson for just 17 yards, while Williams was shut out.
On the day, Clements completed 22 of 41 for 239 yards, one touchdown, but, threw four interceptions.
There was a bright spot for Ottawa in the game. GM Eric Tillman, who let it be known that he needed a kicker badly for the game, after Dan Giancola injured his groin, was greeted one morning by 88 e-mails, when he turned on his computer, half of which dealt with the kicking problems. Tillman also had four voice-mails from kicking hopefuls. He settled for the final cut of the Kansas City Chiefs, Lawrence Tynes. The Troy State grad was released when KC decided to stick with the veteran Morten Andersen. He delivered when called upon, nailing field goals of 48 and 39 yards, and, averaging 70 yards on three kickoffs.
Meanwhile, the defending Grey Cup champion Stampeders are reeling, after losing their fourth straight, 45-11 in Edmonton last week. QB Marcus Crandell remains a problem for the Stamps. Crandell could not move the ball at all against the Eskimos, completing just 11-25 for 166 yards, no touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Head coach Wally Buono is so concerned about Crandell?s play, that he had a private meeting with the pivot on Monday.
The Stamps offence could only muster a total of 245 yards, while the defense was scorched by Ricky Ray. The Edmonton QB passed for 366 yards and three touchdowns, and the Edmonton kick returners also had a big night, getting a total of 322 yards.
Calgary welcomes back two members of last year?s Grey Cup team in this one. QB Ben Sankey, who won the starting job in the 2001 training camp ahead of Crandell, but was injured in Week One, is back after a failed tryout with the Houston Texans. Sankey couldn?t get the back-up spot and was released after the Texans brought in NFL veteran Tony Banks. Sankey, the Wake Forest product, may not get the start, but right now, has more experience than the current two back-ups, Kevin Feterik and Darnell Kennedy.
Running back/kick returner Antonio Warren rejoins Calgary after being released by the New York Giants. Warren led the CFL with 2,924 all-purpose yards last season, and is also expected to spell off running back Kelvin Anderson.
The numbers: 116-36. That?s how badly Ottawa has been outscored in the fourth quarter this year.
Keys to the game: at this point last season, Calgary had won 5 games. Yet, Buono says his team is more talented right now than it was at time one year ago. They have a chance to prove it, against the second worst defense in the league, when it comes to yards allowed per game. Only Calgary?s defense is worst in this category. Good thing the Stamps are playing Ottawa, because against another team, it could be ugly. Look for the defending champs to get back on the winning track in this one.
