WOW! Look at the field we have left. I have only been following club football for about 4 years but this is definitely the most powerful quarterfinal group in terms of name value that I can remember.

All eight are G-14 clubs. None of them comes from the Bundesliga and only one comes from arguably Europe's top league, the Premiership, but this is still an amazing field.

Compare this with last year:

Panathinaikos - Barca
Bayern - Real
Man U - Depor
Liverpool - Leverkusen

Sure, Bayern vs. Real was a marquee matchup but the other 3 were lacking. Now we have Real either vs. Man U in a battle of the two biggest clubs in the world or in a derby vs. Valencia or Barca. The other 3 matchups should be great too.

Im not 100% sure of how they work the Semis but i think they do there best to aviod teams from the same league playing each other eg: (Juvy vs Inter) If everything holds like i think it might the match ups would look like this.

Man U vs R. Madrid
Valencia vs Inter
Barcelona vs Juvy
Milan vs Ajax

Again, i am not 100% sure!

My understanding is that the draw is random except for the fact that teams from the same second phase group cannot play each other. At least on the UEFA website it specifically says that teams from the same country are allowed to play each other.

Nick you have it right;
The winner of each group is randomly drawn with the 2nd place finisher of one of the other 3 groups.
Example; Man U will play Real Madrid, Ajax or Inter Milan. They can't play Juventus because they just came out of the same group.
