I don't think they were completely outclassed. They made mistakes that cost them bigtime. Granted you cant make mistakes like that and expect to win, but Leftwich did everything he needed to do all game long. If it were possible for him to throw the ball and then rund down the field and catch it, he would have tried. Had the receivers not dropped and fumbled, the game would have been alot closer. VT by no means completely dominated this game. Ground attack and clock management yes, but really could have been alot closer and the under shot in the 3rd. (ALL IMO)
The drops hurt Marshall a lot, but VT wins that game 95 of 100 times: great run game vs.no run game, excellent defense versus swiss cheese defense.
no doubt that vt wins that game, just think that with the herd mishaps, the under should have been the BS play. The over would haver reached earlier in the game. I know if I had the under, i would have been telling myself, " I have been getting some gifts from the herd" I am still telling myself that with the herd 2h team over, but just my opinion.
PUHD-if the scoreboard tells any story,marshall got thier asses handed to them....485 yds offense and only 21 pts????and 2 of those touches were bullshit late scores....im just saying that va tech only put up 10 more yards on offense and outscored them by 26pts.....doubled them up plus....2 different classes,thats all....good luck

Va Tech covers this spread 8/10 times.....Marshall couldn't stop the ground game wtih 10 men in the box.....men against boys in the trenches.....and those receivers who were touted as the best in the country -- looked like garbage when they were pressed by great athletes....sure they can get open in the prevent and make catches with no one within 5 yards, but play a little physical bigtime ball, and they are exposed as clearly inferior talent to the big time -- no Randy Moss this year Marshall....sorry

When you play a team that has a D like VT you cannot say Tos were the diff : they ARE going to happen vs A great D;; Marshall does not play vs Great Ds and they were EXPOSED ; TOO BAD I had to take it in the ::::::::::::cause Beamer went SOFT!!!!
Agree, couldnt stop the run for crap. And also 2 different leagues where clearly VT is the boss. Don't think Marshall deserving of a top 20 rank at all, but Leftwich looks great. Very composed, great arm. I think that he clearly is deserving of Heisman consideration. Grossman and Dosey both play for schools who get the pick of the litter, and a school like marshall gets the other kids. I do think that Pruett does a great job with the gems that he finds and the other scrubs that play for him.

NC- no contest. Men against boys, save for Leftwich. He is the best QB in the nation. Accurate, laser for an arm but can throw for touch when needed, good pocket presence. Put him on Miami, Florida, etc...teams with top notch talent at running back, O-line and there wouldn't be any question.
Marshall is a bit overrated though. Of course the AP and coaches rankings mean squat in terms of how good the teams actually are, but Marshall is clearly not one of the Top 25 teams in the country. Put them in one of major conferences and they would be a 6-5 type of team. If you can't stop the run against a team that was going to run every single time, while you put 8 or 9 men in the box....then you've got major defensive problems.

I agree Hoops that without a doubt, Leftwhich is the best QB and best NFL QB propsect in the nation. Hands down.

Blacksburg is a tough place to play, no question. Just because 25 other teams might not win there doesn't mean Marshall has to be included in that group. Plenty of teams wouldn't get spanked liked Marshall did tonight either. LSU doesn't have a QB and they played Tech much tougher..I don't even think LSU is that strong this season.
Giving a quick look over all the conferences and teams, I don't think Marshall is in the Top 40.

hellah10-got alot of respect for you and your threads....i follow them and read them....however i dont see how you say we're nuts about leftwich....speaking for myself-i never said leftwich was or wasnt #1 in the nation at qb....just said i was tired of all the heisman hype...and i clearly do think theyre overrated.....when your offense is one dimensional and you have one HORRIBLE DEFENSE you have no business being in the top 25...they are there because they have the best athlete in the country and hes the QB....i agree w/ the WR'S & the leftwich claim but it ends there....just because they are the class of the mid american conference they dont belong in top 25 IMO....the MAC is a booty conference and is definitely overmatched against the powerhouse conferences....big 12,big 10,pac 10, & big east....leftwich is remarkable and he puts up crazy #'s,however MARSHALL (the team) is mediocre....played their biggest game of the year,granted in blacksburg,and got their tits lit....and im sure it surprised many mjer's who were all over marshall and the points just how much of a difference there is in these 2 classes of programs....anyway just my opinion...we may disagree but i still respect your threads so keep em coming....good luck to you and your rockets....any thought on mich/notre dame?
