1. Texas
Forget for a moment that this program with Chris Simms running the show has won precisely squat on the field, we're looking at the nation's most talented teams for 2002 and as we see it on April 4th, the Longhorns are the best. Even so, we're with with most of you needing Simms and Mack Brown to prove to us that they won't gag away the big games. If you're asking us right now which team of players we'd most like to have for 2002, we'd pick Texas. If you're asking us who's going to win the national title, the jury's still out.

2. Miami
While the Canes have talent to burn, Frank Gore's injury concerns us only because of the bad karma start to the season. It's hard to catch the same breaks twice and the Canes might be due for a little bit of bad luck. On straight talent though, this might be the best college defensive line we've ever seen and if the secondary is really as good as head coach Larry Coker is raving about, look out.

3. Oklahoma
JUCO transfers have replenished the defense while all reports are that QB Jason White's knee will be just fine for the season. While we think the defense will be as strong as ever, we're still not sold the offense will be better than it was last year.

4. Florida State
The offense is loaded and will be as explosive as ever as Chris Rix should emerge from the quarterback battle with Adrian McPherson an even stronger player.

5. Tennessee
The biggest question for us was the defensive line but with the way Constantin Ritzmann and others appear to have stepped up, there won't be much of a drop-off. The offense will be explosive behind an offensive line that could be better with the return of Michael Munoz.

6. Florida
We're not buying the "needing a year to reload" theory. We are buying that Ron Zook will be outstanding and think the Gator coaching staff could end up shocking the world with what they do with this team. With the staff making a conscious effort to give Rex Grossman as much time as possible to throw, the passing numbers might not drop off too much.

7. Washington
The offense will be unbelievable as we think the Cory Pickett to Reggie Williams passing combination will emerge as one of the nation's best.

8. Colorado
The running game hasn't really gotten rolling yet this spring, but we're not concerned. QB Craig Ochs looks sharp and the passing game could shine.

9. Georgia
We're a little concerned about the defense, but with all the stars on offense the Bulldogs will simply score as many points as needed.

10. Ohio State
There's not one specific area the Buckeyes appear to be better than anyone else in the Big Ten, but the overall package looks fantastic.

11. South Carolina
Losses on defense? Need a new quarterback? Lose the star running back? It doesn't matter as Lou Holtz got the JUCO transfers to pump up the defense, either Dondrial Pinkins or Corey Jenkins will add more of a spark at quarterback and Andrew Pinnock is better than Derek Watson anyway.

12. Auburn
In a conference of great teams and better defenses, Auburn might have the best D of the bunch with a devastating back seven.

13. Oregon
The Ducks need the young players on the defensive line to step up in a hurry and RB Onterrio Smith has to stay healthy.

14. Texas A&M
The offense should be much stronger (it can't be any worse) while the defense could challenge Oklahoma's for the Best in the Big XII honor.

15. LSU
As the 2003 season goes on, people will realize just how amazing Rohan Davey and Josh Reed were. There's a ton of talent here, but the team isn't nearly as strong as last year.

Another note, 10 of the 12 Sec teams are in the top 50, with bammer in at 48... Vandy and Kentucky are the only two not in the top 50:eek:

KY and VANDY shouldn't be in the top 100!!! LOL :D

...and although we may start with 2 Big 12 teams in the top 5, i doubt we'll finish with 2 in the top 5....

p.s. man, i can hardly wait until august.... ;)

UT in the #1 spot?

As I've said many times, these rankings (assuming the AP and Coaches poll post similar rankings) are totally useless. Didn't these idiots have UT as the favorite to win colege football's championship last season? These fools never learn. These polls belong on the same page with horoscopes and the 5-day weather forecast.

isn't it always next year for u guys...

Just a quote from your thread concerning the Big XII in college hoops. SC? Auburn? LSU? in the Top 15?

Where is this from? Always be suspicious of magazines that put an area's team in the Top 20 just to move their product off of the shelf. I use to fall for that every year when Sports Illustrated would have Notre Dame always listed at 20, and that was during the Gerry Faust years

This post is obviously made from an Auburn fan perspective. The Tide at 48?! They are returning a lot of talent from last year{and I am sure you remember the Bama-Auburn score from last year} and the infractions will not start to affect them for a couple of years. It will not be pretty then but this year is fine.:nono: :moon: :thefinger

It is very interesting to discuss in a "forum." If you don't want any views that differ from yours, just please state that at the beginning of the thread and there probably won't be any views that differ from yours.

Wareagle, apologies extended. When you first posted it looked like your own personal predictions instead of a site that you were looking at and I think that is why the others posters jumped at you also. Did not even pull up site that you listed after seeing Tide at 48. Hopefully we can get the most of the year like AU did years ago and finish 11-0 and have to stay at home for bowls. Don't think we will run our coach off after a season like that, had to leave with a little smack. :moon:

Alabama at 48????????????

I do not care what anyone says, Bama is not 48. Bama should start out the year in the top 25, in the range of 15-20.

Starting off the year, Bama will have a very good starting 22. We won 4 in row at the end of the year and that was with a 1st year coach trying to repair the damage from Dubose.

Bama will be a very good team as long as injuries are not out of control. I know that is a big if but that is the way it is. Bama is lacking in depth but they have a very good starting 22.

Also the NCAA penalities will have no effect this year or next really. It will be in 2 years that the NCAA sanctions will bite us in the ass.

Also this is my honest assment. I have tried to be realistic and tried not to look at the team through crimson colored glasses. But 48 is the dumbest ranking I have ever seen.

That prestigous honor went to the Florida Gators.
The Link

BTW, they did not say we'd win it all... they just said we got the most talent... which, if you believe in the jinx effect, is what most sports programs are saying.

Huskers and K-State below A&M? What the hell is A&M even doing in there anyway?

You probably have Oregon, Auburn, Florida, and Ohio State too high. Especially Ohio State.

If Tennessee can find some people to play on their D-line, sign seal and deliver the Sears trophy to them, because their skill people are second to none this year and their offense will be very potent.

Miami will again be very strong, but that schedule could even do them in. November Road game vs. Tennesee will probably be for one half of the national championship bracket.

If Jason White is fully Healthy for Oklahoma you may be able to pencil them in on the other side of the BCS game.

While fielding what should again be a ferocious defense, I still don't like Simms in a big game atmosphere. Texas will be very good this year though and their skill people match up with anyone.

Colorado has the task of replacing some quality offensive lineman and a pending dna rape case hanging over them.

Oughtta be interesting but I am still working on baseball

OH yeah, dedicated to Monk

OH yeah, dedicated to Monk

While Texas A&M has what is an outstanding defense, as long as Mark Farris is taking snaps and Dino Babers is teaching him that offense will about as smoothly as a gremlin. This team is lower top 25 at best.

Somewhere, right now, the BYU coach is wondering why they're not in the top 15.

As much as i hate to say it, i agree, Tenn. has the inside track to the SEARS. With them only playing three road games out of the State of Tenn, the vols will be hard to stop.

Hello There, I'll tell you why BYboohoo isn't there. They gave up a measly 70+pts to the fighting rainbows of hawaii. BCS, are you guys kidding me:nono:

If they had all their players at the end, they would have gone undefeated. They would have put up a good fight against anyone last year.
