I'm hoping to start off 03/04 with an easy win:

Marquette -1.5

Two teams that did well in the post-season and lost their big stars; Marquette lost Dwayne Wade (21.5ppg and 6.3rpg) and center Robert Johnson (15.4ppg and 7.5rpg) while St John's lost Marcus Hatten who led the team in scoring, assists and steals.

But Marquette is deeper, has played more together early and should be no match for the Johnnies.

Marquette played in Costa Rica and a couple of pre-season games back in the States; Travis Diemer is not going to get the open looks he got last year but he's looked good so far. Despite the loss of Wade and Johnson, Marquette returns their three other starters from last year.

St John's loses four starters and while "Showtime" is a real talent he will be no replacement for Hatten in his first college game. Look for him to put up some shots from way downtown like he's used to on the playground.

St John's could only hit 40% from the field last year with Hatten; expect a much lower percentage from them at the Garden tomorrow night.

Johnnies should focus on D like they did last year in their successful 2H; probably a good play on the Under, especially given their probable lack of O.

Good luck.
