Tonight begins my season of handicapping games.
Game 1: Notre Dame +5 @ Pitt
Tonight's contest is a first for both teams
-the Irish on an opponent's home floor.
-Pitt, first game this season against ranked opponent.
Notre Dame has played eight games at home and is 4-1 in neutral site contests.
Notre Dame has swept the Panthers during the regular-season each of the last two seasons.
In the two-year period from 2000-02, the Irish's BIG EAST wins are matched only by Boston College and Connecticut.
Coach Mike Brey is 4-1 against Pittsburgh.
Notre Dame opponents are shooting just 35.6 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from three-point range.
Under Irish head coach Brey (76 games), Notre Dame teams have never suffered a loss greater than 16 points. The Irish's 11 losses last season were by a combined total of 49 points for an average margin of defeat of 4.45 points. Only one loss (versus Georgetown - 83-73) was by double figures, while eight of those setbacks were by five points or less. In the 22 losses the Irish have suffered under Brey over the course of the last two-plus seasons, only four have been by a double-digit margin. In his first season (2001-01), Brey's squad lost 10 games by a combined 85 points with its biggest loss coming against Connecticut (16 points) in a 75-59 setback. Notre Dame's only loss this season was a five-point (80-75) setback to Creighton.
Chris Thomas' unselfish play continues to be one of the reasons why the Irish have been so successful the past two seasons in compiling a 34-12 (.739) mark over the last 46 games. As a freshman, he ranked fifth nationally with a 7.64 assist average. Already this season, Thomas is averaging 7.7 assists in the first 13 Irish games, good for fourth nationally. This I believe is the key to ND winning tonight.
Remember, ND was the last team to defeat Pitt at home last Jan 12th, 56-53.
Although the last two seasons Pitt is 35-1 when holding opponents under 60 points, the ND game last year is the one lone loss.
There is no way the game doesn't go over 120 points tonight, so the PLAY is ND +5 (2 Units).
Also playing Over 142 for 1 Unit.
Other plays are Kansas -6 for 1 Unit (Jayhawks are finally playing well again), and Under 154 for 1 Unit.
Good Luck and let's hope for a good NCAA Season
