In tomorrow's report, I have a solid paragraph on the Copa America semi-final between Columbia and Peru. I have recommended the UNDER 2.5, laying -115. Would a few of you look at it for me and give me some feedback (I sent in the report just now, but had not time to reflect). I hve alos not yet made my wager. I am contemplating a sizable wager -- but would like to hear from some who have some first-hand knowledge about SA futbol. All opinions welcome...we have until 5:30 pm today EST.

Here are stats from last games

  • 07-19-2000 Peru 0-1 Col?mbia
  • 02-23-2000 Col?mbia 2-1 Peru
  • 04-30-1997 Col?mbia 0-1 Peru
  • 06-02-1996 Peru 1-1 Col?mbia
  • 07-07-1995 Col?mbia 1-1 Peru
  • 08-29-1993 Col?mbia 4-0 Peru
  • 08-08-1993 Peru 0-1 Col?mbia
  • 07-09-1989 Col?mbia 1-1 Peru
  • 06-09-1985 Peru 0-0 Col?mbia
  • 05-26-1985 Col?mbia 1-0 Peru
  • 08-28-1983 Colombia 2-2 Peru
  • 08-17-1983 Peru 1-0 Colombia
  • 10-28-1975 Peru 1-0 Colombia
  • 10-22-1975 Peru 2-0 Colombia

Colombia will play with 4-5-1 system which in my opinion will make it hard to Peru. Against Mexico, Peru was lucky to win 1-0. Mexico missed some great chances, and Peru played an open match since they needed to win.
Against Colombia, I will expect a peru side defending the result with all weapons they got, and explore the counter attack. Since Colombia as some players suspended, they will start the game carefully and the game will be mostly played in the midfield.

I see value in your play, but I wouldn't play big, since South American games are more unpredictable than we could imagine.

To everyone who understand spanish were is an url with a full report

Some really good assistance there s7ven and some insightful points.
I think there is definite value in this play Nolan, although as you know I'm strictly a one-unit player (ok, with the odd rare 2-unit splurge

)
Colombia's display in not conceding a goal during the tournament is highly encouraging towards an UNDER and while you could argue that it's hard to keep that record going, such efforts do build a great dose of confidence amongst the back four and keeper.
They also don't appeal as a team that can score heavily, with five goals for from three appearances. For example, the two they scored v Chile came from a) the penalty spot and b) in the 90th minute.
Peru's matches have featured more goals, with the majority coming in a 3-3 draw with Uruguay.
They have been hit hard in this match with injuries and suspensions.
Colombian coach Francisco Maturana should know plenty about how his opponents will play; having coached the Peru national side last year.
The hosts will be without strikers Arriaga, who has featured off the bench, Murillo and Castillo leaving probably Aristizabal up front by himself as s7ven said in a 4-5-1 formation.
I think the sudden-death nature of this encounter lends itself to an UNDER. While Sth American sides are often regarded as spectacular, talent-laden sides with brilliant attacking talent, it's often a reputation crafted solely on the individual abilities of the players. Matches between Sth American sides are often dull, cynical matches with a surfeit of fouls to deny the skillful ball-player creating goalscoring opportunities.
A couple of points to be wary about: Discipline at the tournament has been poor and we could easily again see at least one team down to 10 men relatively early in the match. That may not be a bad thing, as the understrength side usually tries to close the game down and strike solely on the counter-attack - which is how Peru are likely to play the game anyway. But Peru scored twice v 10 men against Uruguay while Colombia v Chile (2-0) saw the two sides play 10 v 10 for 56 minutes. There were also red cards for both teams in Peru's 1-0 win over Mexico.
Also, Colombia's "goals against" record could be slightly inflated by the fact they haven't played against anything startling up front eg no Salas or Zamorano for Chile.
The likelihood of this going over is probably based mostly on a Colombia win by 3-0, 3-1 or similar, but I expect the hosts to be a little cautious also in their approach.

When it comes to football wagers I usually steer clear. But the under 2.5 is, I believe, the best value bet around in the code. At -115 over 90 minutes (don't forget that, it's very important, extra-time or penalties will not kill the UNDER), there is certainly the value you seek here Nolan.

What book is this line at Nolan? If I'm this committed now, I better get a $ on

Anders:

The line I saw yesterday was -115. I made a 2-unit wager late last night (fearing after the report came out, the number would shoot up).

I swear, I know we are at the point where we are moving the line on some of these games. It was at -125 when I first checked this morning, then moved to -135 in the early afternoon. Now, it is -140.

The book I use (for futbol) is Olympic. They don't take wagers on a lot of these games in LV, so I opened the account just for futbol.

All it takes is probably 50-60 wagers of a couple of hundred each, and the line shoots up.

Have you noticed the same trend in the other international leagues and sports, as well?

Thanks guys - have a/c at both places (thanks to Stan and the golf forum and other avenues I have more o'seas books than I have common sense :rolleyes

so have jumped in at Carib.

Yeah, I'm sure we do move a line now and again on the "minor" sports. I know it doesn't take a lot at some of the smaller books like the NZ TAB for example. I saw a wager on the Tour de France I placed at 80-1 soon end up at 20-1

recently.
(Not going to be a winner tho - that Texan's just too good - or on drugs

)
NRL and AFL a little different at the Aus books; some big players around, but mostly on the ML faves.

It's one of the things that interests me a lot about a site like this - if I was a bookie, I'd be looking very closely here. It's why I'm a little secretive about the NRL/Super 12 ATS records. I know any linemaker worth his salt should have his own records but I have my suspicions that a few in this corner of the world aren't paying that much attention

Nervous time, 2-0 in 66th minute. Roughly 25 minutes to sweat this out.
