I had kids from local college come into my office last week. They asked if we would answer survey questions for their communications class project. I always enjoyed media class in high school, so my secretary and myself gladly volunteered....they were all questions regarding commercials and advertising today....apparently they say it's become a big topic in the advertising industry that ads and commercials continue to get worse and are less about the product and more about sex or someone's agenda...I don't know about all that, but it was entertaining listening to them and hearing someone who was passionate about something that I've never really even thought of or entertained as debatable...now I find myself questioning every commercial I view...
After answering all the questions and talking with the two students whom were both very bright, I came to the conclusion that new "advertising" sucks today...and it seems from their studies and research that they also agreed as well as a lot of their peers...they said because social media and online ads are so crucial, less time/effort/money/thought is put into each TV commercial, which is why the commercial industry has been on a steady decline....i don't know how or where they came up with it, but they say they learned about the financial aspect and how more companies are claiming that TV commercials are actually becoming less effective and serve less of a purpose, compared to years past so companies are settling for lesser quality....again I don't know anything about it, but it sounded like they knew their shit and it made sense logically...
Naturally after talking about something so recent, I started to pay more attention and really started to evaluate commercials, if that's what you want to call it....
First off, am I the only one who cannot stand the sonic commercials. They don't entice me to eat there in the slightest...they make me wanna burn the place down...those two guys should have to wear helmets everyday
Again I don't know this stuff for fact, but they say a "overwhelming" amount of people who were surveyed nationally said they enjoyed it more when branding was done with a jingle...I have to admit, I always liked the "Big Mac song", even though I'm not a huge fan of the sandwhich

Lettuce cheese
Pickles onions
On a sesame seed bun
Now everyone, and especially tech companies, have these stupid commercials where "branding" is done by showing the same people as always.
Ex: the sonic jokers....who aren't funny
Sprint is OK because that gal is gorgeous and has naked pics out...very nice...
I'm younger and probably am wrong, but I feel like commercials have gotten progressively worse....people are "content" all the time now in all areas....so they get their best of the bad ideas and run with it...
I know this probably seems dull and meaningless to most, but I found it interesting for some reason...these 2 students really were nice to talk to...
So when you are watching commercials from now on, just remember, they could've done more....lol
