And that comparison is very close Lowell!!
I have ranted for years against US Soccer and its flawed organization. This game in particular is not meaningful in itself, but it best serves to demonstrate the serious issues within US Soccer. This is an organization filled with bean counters that know little about the game who hire people with soccer knowledge that only agree with them. They took a year to hire a coach with zero experience for the job because he is someone who they can control and will not fight what they want to do. The coach then comes in and tries to force his system on the players rather then adapting to the talent that he has. This is why they are not progressing. Whether they admit it or not, they prefer to keep a certain percentage of MLS players on the team in order to promote the league and keep players in the US, so they are not putting their best team on the field. This structure has been flawed from the beginning and all the best players are realizing it. Berhalter is certainly out of his league, but the core of the organization is the real problem. They had a chance to change it when Gulati left but they simply continued down the same path and make the same mistakes over and over again. The people in charge are elitist, arrogant, and by definition insane, and know little to nothing about how to develop players and a winning team. They refuse to learn from European teams and leagues. It is a shame as these players deserve better. I think you are seeing a small revolt by them against Berhalter. Taking Pulisic out and implying that he is an issue was disgusting to me. In any other league or in any other country in the world, the coach would be fired. Only in the US can a coach survive a debacle like this. Just another reason why US soccer is not well respected around the world.
I could go on and on and on, but frankly I am so disgusted with them that I really do not pay much attention anymore. It is clear that US Soccer is terribly flawed and unwilling to change. Not sure what more can happen for them to realize they do not know what they are doing.
