Dude had slowed down in the 2nd half; nothing too exceptionable about that,
but had a couple a couple of days ago in losing cause to Jays and then 2 more today
leaves him alone with the rookie record for homers in a season.
I totally remember following the whole 1987 season pretty closely, when Mark McGwire
destroyed the previous rookie mark. It was something to behold, at the time.
Seemed to suck, at the time, that he couldn't make 50 but still quite a feat.
I can see Stanton getting stuck at 59 with just a handful of games left; he's now at 57,
looking to become just the 6th player to pull that off (Ruth, Maris, McGwire, Sosa, Bonds).
Its been done 8 times, with McGwire doing it twice and Sosa thrice.
Griffey--56 in '97 & '98--does it if he has A-Rod hitting behind him instead of Edgar
Martinez, at least in a few of the multiverses.
I still think Yanks pitching won't get it done in the playoffs.
Bosox offense is their weakness, this year.
I'd love to see Astros and Nationals in the Series; I was thinkin' that even a few months ago
and it would be cool to see two who have never won the prize--and two who have been quite
stellar for a few years now--duke it out. Sorry, Clayton...why doncha become a Jay? (abracadabra (?!))
peace out
