Well in the last contest our club finished either in 2-3rd out of 8. If you count divs which the contest did not (dumb rule) then we would finish in 2nd.
this year the contest has taken a huge step back and we may not enter it. they have reduced the number of stocks down from 10-5 because and I quote " many clubs found it difficult to pick 10 stocks".
out of thousands of stocks, people found it difficult, they could not just pick stocks in a certain sector or in their community. failing that get a dartboard.
anyways they may allow TSX venture stocks in and if they do our club will not go in. many of these stocks have small volume and trying to buy in $20K could take days, or a month or two. One TSX/venture stock I was following had $1900 cdn. worth of stock traded, on an average day. it took 14 trades to hit the big $1900.
anyways my selections for the contest (decide in December) were:
Nov 15, 2002 all trade TSX
XIU $36.65 $37.50 Nov 22.
this just tracks the TSX/SP 60 the main index in Canada, MER .18 low, and since most of the clubs could not beat the index why not the same this year. also think the CDN. equity market may actually go up in 2003 of coarse thought the same in 2002.
Rider Resources RRI .69 .75 nov 22, 2002
this is a junior oil/gas stock that trades on the TSX, bought some between .62-.65, a growing junior, however I have sold 75% of my position at .77 hit a high of .78.
Rider should make .20 cents in cashflow so if I put a 4multiple that gets me a target of .80 cents cdn. a share. if it is at .75 cents or higher will vote against the stock not much upside. however if it falls to .70 or below will buy it.
good junior with management and land positions in western Canada. and good and growing cashflow, just believe it is almost fully valued.
will consider other juniors like Keywest, Compton, Gauntlet, Cavell, Rio alt International. have not position in these at present.
thanks
