#1) Any fellow Concrete Blonde fans out
there?
#2) Anyone here have heard of and/or listened
to Roy Buchanon? He was once considered
as a replacement for Brian Jones when he
drowned but was to f*cked up even for
the Stones. (Imagine that!)

Concrete Blonde - f*%$ing A!!

Johnette Napolitano most certainly rocks my world
biggrin.gif
Have most of their CDs but one of my biggest prized possessions is a RED vinyl copy of the "Bloodletting" album
cool.gif

It is complete now -
Two ends of time
Are neatly tied
A one-way street,
She's walking to the
End of the line
And there she meets the
Faces she sees in
Her heart and mind

They say -Goodbye-
Tomorrow Wendy's
Going to die
Underneath the chilly
Grey November sky
We can make believe that
Kennedy is still alive
We're shooting for
The moon and smiling
Jackie's driving by

They say -Good try-
Tomorrow Wendy's
Going to die
I told the priest -
Don't count on
Any second coming.
God got his ass kicked
The first time he
Came down here slumming
He had the balls to come,
The gall to die and then
Forgive us -
No, I don't wonder why
I wonder what he thought
It would get us -
Hey he, good try -
Tomorrow Wendy's
Going to die

But God says jump,
so I set the time
'cause if he ever saw it
it was through these eyes of mine
and if He ever suffered
it was me who did His crying...
Hey, hey, good bye...

Don't know much about Roy Buchanan apart from a few sketchy details; was also asked to join Clapton with Derek and the Dominos; died in 1988 when he was found hanging in a polce cell. Rated by many who know as one of the guitar greats.

Joey, baby - don't get crazy
Detours, fences...I get defensive

I know you've heard it all before
So I don't say it anymore
I just stand by and let you
Fight your secret war
And though I used to wonder why
I used to cry till I was dry
Still sometimes I get a strange pain inside
Oh, Joey, if you're hurting so am I

Joey, honey - I got some money
All is forgiven. Listen, listen

But if I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you.
And when you said I scared you
Well I guess you scared me too
But we got lucky once before
And I don't want to close the door
And if you're somewhere out there
Passed out on the floor
Oh Joey, I'm not angry anymore

And if I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you.
And when you said I scared you
Well I guess you scared me too
But if it's love you're looking for
Then I can give a little more
And if you're somewhere drunk and
Passed out on the floor
Oh Joey, I'm not angry anymore
Angry anymore, angry anymore

I remember back in '87 in the day of horsesh*t music in general, stuff like the homo hair metal bands, I saw a video pop on MTV called "Still in Hollywood" Amazing rock song I thought yet it played for only a week to two weeks. I was thinking huh???? I get crap like Bon Jovi yet this vanishes. Went out bought the album and was hooked. The first one was and is my favorite. My 2nd choice is "Bloodletting". Wonder what she is up to these days. Another under the radar artist in '87 I really liked was Robbie Robertson's debut album. Had U2 on two of his songs. Great album.

JT - yup, "Still in Hollywood" was my intro to Concrete Blonde too. Listening to the campus radio station at varsity, heard the live version - "She say's heavy metal, and a young hard cock; Well can't ya handle that kind of talk" - and thought, tremendous
cool.gif

I was walking down the street early this morning
Past the graveyard, voices whisper to me.
I was walking down the street, early this morning
And the silver tears of rain hung from the leaves
And I swear I heard the voices singing to me...
Singing to the rhythm of the beat of my feet,
I swear I heard the voices singing to me -
Keep on, keep on, keep on.

Still in Hollywood!
oh WOW! Thought I'd be out of here by now.
Still in Hollywood!
My, my I'm running on a wheel and I don't know why
I don't know why.

And on the bus today, I met the queen of L.A. -
At least she said she was and who am I to say?
She was sixty-five and full of life,
She had purple-painted cheeks
And glitter on her eyes
And the troll on the corner, I flipped him a quarter
And he looked at me and smiled.
He wasn't abused, he wasn't confused,
He had nothing to gain and less to lose in Hollywood

oh WOW! Thought I'd be out of here by now.
Still in Hollywood!
My, my I'm running like a rat and I don't know why

And so it's three A.M., I'm out walking again.
I'm just a spot on the sidewalk in a city of sin.
He doesn't give a ****, he's living under a truck.
You know it coulda been me, guess it's just my luck.
But I swear I hear the voices singing to me -
Keep on, keep on, keep on.

Still in Hollywood...

Gotta dig Robbie too; loved the band and his first solo album was outstanding. Love that Daniel Lanois sound - if you want to check out an awesome album with the same Lanois feel, you must listen to "Wrecking Ball" by Emmylou Harris; a f*&^ng brilliant album

Fallen Angel

Are you out there
Can you hear me
Can you see me in the dark

I don't believe it's all for nothing
It's not just written in the sand
Sometimes I thought you felt too much
And you crossed into the shadowland

And the river was overflowing
And the sky was fiery red
You gotta play the hand that's dealt ya
That's what the old man always said

Fallen Angel
Casts a shadow up against the sun
If my eyes could see
The spirit of the chosen one

In my dream the pipes were playing
In my dream I lost a friend
Come down Gabriel and blow your horn
'Cause some day we will meet again

Fallen Angel
Casts a shadow up against the sun
If my eyes could see
The spirit of the chosen one

All the tears
All the rage
All the blues in the night
If my eyes could see
You kneeling in the silver light

Fallin', fallin', fallin' down
Fallin', fallin' down
Fallin', fallin', fallin' down
Fallin', fallin' down

Fallen Angel
Casts a shadow up against the sun
If my eyes could see
The spirit of the chosen one

All the tears
All the rage
All the blues in the night
If my eyes could see
You kneeling in the silver light

If you're out there can you touch me
Can you see me I don't know
If you're out there can you reach me
Lay a flower in the snow

Your alright Anders! Got those liner notes pretty handy or you have the greatest memory of all time. You remember the sci-fi film "The Hidden"? They had songs from Concrete Blonde's 1st album on the soundtrack.

dear darling,
haven't seen you in awhile
found some change in my pocket
thought i'd take the chance and dial
i'm alright
just right now a little down
it gets chilly over here
it's a cold part of town
dear darling,
you were right about them all
when it all came down
they never came around or called
that's alright
i don't miss them anyhow
but it gets lonely over here
it's a cold part of town
i'll go now
someone's waiting for the phone
it's raining
getting dark & i'm alone
yeah i'll call you
can i sometimes come around?
it's so lonely over here
it's a cold , cold part of town.

Later fellow Blonde fanatic!

By the way, I got your Midnight Oil question covered too.
Not the greatest memory of all time, but will confess to having an extremely large portion of my brain solely dedicated to music and sports info - approximately 95%
biggrin.gif

Drives my wife friggin nuts - "How can you forget to bring home the milk and bread from the shops yet can remember Depeche Mode's original line-up and the member changes in The Byrds!!"
Me: "Um....."

Also helped that I worked in/ran music stores for 7 years in between being a journo

Ah how I wish I could be a DJ. In a hour play everything from Concrete Blonde, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Lone Justice (Remember them?) to Chemical Brothers. Btw, I saw your answers in the other thread. That is certainly my favorite Oil song. Have you heard that Springsteen song "41 Shots" yet?

Regards...

I remember Roy Buchanan (& snake skinners?).

Only remember his music in general terms.
