The injury bug continues to bite, and this time is bit hard.
UFC light heavyweight Randy Couture (16-10 MMA, 13-7 UFC) is the latest victim, and an injured back has forced "The Natural" out of his scheduled contest with Brandon Vera (11-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) at UFC 105 in Manchester, England.
The morning a source from inside Couture?s training camp notified MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of the injury, and Ariel Helwani of AOL FanHouse has since confirmed that herniated discs have forced Couture out of action for approximately five weeks.
Couture and Vera were slotted for the main event of UFC 105: Couture vs. Vera on Nov. 14 at The Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England.
It is assumed that UFC officials will announce a replacement opponent shortly, though no names have been rumored at this point.
Vera seeks to return to the cage for the first time since his win over former IFL stand out Krzysztof Soszynski in August. Aside from a split decision loss to Keith Jardine in October 2008, Vera has won three of his four fights since moving down from heavyweight, which has included victories over notables such as Mike Patt, Reese Andy, and aforementioned Krzysztof Soszynski .
Meanwhile, Couture had hoped to snap a two fight losing streak. Couture has gone 2-2 in his latest stint at heavyweight losing to standouts Brock Lesnar and most recently Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. ?The Natural? was hoping to get back in the win column by returning to the light heavyweight division....
