Crack repaired, Big Brown a big Belmont favorite

Big Brown remains an overwhelming favorite to win the 140th Belmont Stakes ? and the first Triple Crown in 30 years.

betED.com has the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner at -350 odds to win the Belmont on June 7 and become the first thoroughbred since Affirmed in 1978 to win horse racing?s three jewels.

Horse racing betting fans have apparently not been discouraged by news that the undefeated colt had been bothered by a hairline quarter-crack on the inside of his front left hoof.

Hoof specialist Ian McKinlay repaired the crack in a 10-minute procedure on Monday, and trainer Rick Dutrow said Big Brown will be ready for the big race.

The horse has not galloped since Friday, and exercise rider Michelle Nevin has been walking him twice a day for 30 minutes at a time.

Big Brown?s biggest challenge is expected to come from Casino Drive, who has had just two starts, one of those a win in the Peter Pan Stakes. Casino Drive is +350 to win the Belmont.

The Japan-based horse has impressive bloodlines. His dam, Better Than Honour, has produced the last two Belmont winners ? Jazil and Rags To Riches. Casino Drive is scheduled to have a workout Wednesday.

Another contender is Denis of Cork, who?s at +900 odds. Denis of Cork worked out at Churchill Downs on Monday, going five-eighths of a mile in 59.8. He is scheduled to have one more work before shipping to Belmont Park.

Tale of Ekati, at +1500, was also scheduled to have a workout Monday.
