Need some help or opinions. I am getting ready to check my credit report. I know there are several different "free" sites to do so. That is, in the past i went to one and you do sign up for a monthly service fee but the 1st month is free and you need to cancelle before charged. Not worried about that but which ones are best? Anyone with past experiences that has an opinion I welcome the comment. Thanks.

Bacardi, I'm getting ready to head out for a teacher parent meeting so I don't have time but check back this afternoon. I'll show you how to get at least two of the big three credit reports for free from them and not some want to be site. Only get it from the source because the others might not have all of the info you need.

i'm pretty sure you go to one of the 3 reporting sites (equifax, experion, transunion) and they allow you to check your credit report once a year for free.

This is the yearly free report. This report, though, does not give you your score. It basically lets you see what you have on your report and what is in the negative.

This report is so you can check what is actually on your reports affecting your score, basically to make sure there is nothing on your reports that incorrect. I believe you'll have to pay if you actually want to know your scores. hope this helps

Ok, here's how to get Transunion for free. Go to transunion.com, click on personal, on the right hand side go down and click on dispute an item on your credit report, click online, then follow the steps. They'll give you a copy of your EXACT Trans report from there and that's it. You don't have to dispute anything from that point.

I believe they've closed how you can do it with Experian but I'll put up the Equifax here in a while.

Don't get your report from any other places. Get them from the source or there's a chance you'll be missing much needed info. I can promise you this.

For a free "in the ballpark" credit score visit credit karma.com.

They have several feature that allow you to simulate a credit score and factors that may improve or hurt your score.

It is very close to accurate and will help paint a high level view if you have any issues.

Plus it's a soft inquiry so it doesn't count against you.

Note: the best way to quickly increase your credit score is your utilization percentage. 1-15% is good. If say you are at maximum utilization with a ten thousand credit line.... Paying nine grand could immediately (next posting) increase your score by 100. Also note hard inquiries... If more than three in two years you should dispute just to see if they will remove.

Good luck.

I use Scorewatch from http://www.myfico.com/Products/ScoreWatch/Description.aspx

I get emailed when my FICO score changes/ any changes to my credit report like a new account opened or increase in a balance and I get two Equifax reports which I can pull whenever I want

It is $149.95 a year or $14.95 a month

I'm very happy with the product

Always a good option and when monitoring to get a preferable mortgage rate, an exact score is the best solution.

Free is better for giggles.
