the land of confusion
Later on today the Aussies host an all-star World IX team in the first of three One-Day Internationals at the Telstra Dome here in Melbourne.

This series was organised some time back when the Aussies were the undisputed champions in this limited over format of the game.

Well after our embarrassing recent tour of England it is hard to see how we can beat a one-day team made up of so many world class champions from Sth Africa, Pakistan, India, England and the West Indies!!!!

The Aussies are way down on form and confidence and it will be difficult for them to rise to this occasion.

It will take a huge turnaround of form for the Australian team to get up for this (as much as I will be hoping they can!!). Ticket sales have been slow so I wouldn't expect a "sellout crowd" to be there to lift the Aussies over the line.

:firing: $1.80 for the World IX to win is too good to pass up and I will playing them for a medium sized play.

This should be an entertaining game regardless of the outcome.

Game 2 will be played on Friday with a 3rd game on Sunday.

GL to those that jump onboard!!

Looking good so far considering Australia's great start. I must say I really like watching an indoor cricket match as I am sick of abandoned results or reduced overs. I am going to take a shot at Pietersen top World XI bat at 6/1 as he hits the Aussies well. I look forward to watching Afridi take a few home-run swings.

Yuch!!!! Was that a pathetic display of batting or an awesome Aussie bowling attack? Either way, an easy Australian win put a big dent in my wallet today.

Yes Alb....that was a kick in the nuts alright!!! :nutkick

Even tho the Aussies didn't dominate like they used to.....they won it by a comfortable 93 runs.
The World IX batting was lacklustre with Sangakkara and Flintoff the only ones to put on a score.

The odds on this World combo should improve for Friday's game and I'll be willing to have another crack at 'em.

A Batting line-up like this couldn't fail twice......surely. :cursin:

Got on the World IX this morning at $1.93 and hours later their price has plumeted to $1.70ish.

Lotta people thinking the same as me...........this All-star team is surely to strong to fail with the bat a second time.

I'll have another stab at them.

GAME 2

GAME 2

I really can't understand why Australia can be supported on the exchanges at 2.26 when after Game 1's facile win it is clear that the only team interested in winning this series is Australia.

After their loss in the Summer to England and having to go back home and face the wrath of the Aussie public and press, Australia will be determined to win this series and win back the press and public.

The Rest of the World are here only as a PR exercise and of course, the pay cheque.

Their batting was awful in Game 1 as the Gold and Green came to the party.

Now let's not forget that after Australia had scored 250 in their 50 Overs in game 1 you could still have got 3.00 comfortably on the exchanges, and that turned out to be a steal.

That 250 was the largest total posted at the Telstra Dome in 12 games played there.

I won't go into the facts why I believe the toss had been decided before it took place. I will let the named subs show why that fact is true.

I see Australia winning this series 3-0 so at 2.25 they warrant serious support.

Only one team wants to show that they are still number one (well in atleast the one day format).

Interesting because I heard there was some dodgy dealings about the 1st ODI. I even got an unusual email from a friend working at an exchange company telling me to back the Aussies (and they rarely throw advice at me), but of course I didn't check my email untill after the bloody match was over.

Fixed?.....I don't know about that (maybe slightly bent) but hey...I still can't figure out how Bangladesh could possibly beat Australia a few months back. A good point made by the commentators was that 4 or 5 of Australia's side are arguably in the top 11 of the world so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

BB; Mcgrath is out of the 2nd ODI. DO you still think the Aussies are a great bet? I am still waiting to see who bats first regardless.

What the ????.......the Bulldog wants to back the Aussies??....The same team he's been saying "is on the slide" for the past two years??? :scared

"Rigged" toss of the coin in game 1???

Come on mate.....talk about conspiracy theories!!!

I think the organisers want this series to be "live" in game 3.

Happy to back the World XI team for this second game. Mind you I'll be happier if they bat first!!!
McGrath being "rested" by the Aussies certainly helps the World batting line-up.

Only one team wants to show that they are still number one (well in atleast the one day format).

As for this.....the world rankings still have the Aussies NUMBER 1 in both the One-day format and the Test format baby!!!

One good series in England doesn't get you the Number 1 spot just yet!! :thefinger

I didn't say England were the best side. Before the test series England were 22 points Australia in the world rankings, now they are just 6 points behind and a win against either Pakistan or India with a loss in either of them and England will be top.

Australia are still the best one day side, and are still ranked number 1 in test cricket.

I will still stand by what I said though that Australia as a test team are in decline. It is hard to play 5 days of cricket flat out giving 100% when you start to get old.

Without McGrath playing in Game 2, the Aussie's still have enough bowling depth in the one day game.

I understand your reasoning Pawa about Cricket Australia wanting to keep the series alive, but the players have taken way to much stick for their defeat here in England and they would like nothing better than a 3-0 sweep.

It is true that Australia house 4-5 players who would get into this World XI, so it is quite evenly balanced. Ponting, McGrath, Gilchrist and Symonds would get my vote.

Lets not forget that there is no Kumble or Habajan for the World XI and one of those should be in the team. No Tendulkar either and Dravid is not a great one day player. I can't understand why Shoaib Aktar is playing.

So clearly it is not the best World XI and alot of them haven't played much cricket in the last three to four months.

I still think that Australia represent VALUE at around 5/4

328...WOW!! Nice batting clinic by Gilchrist! And Symonds 31 off 14 balls!!......and these are the same guys that lost to Bangladesh eh?
The Aussies are still 1.31 on Betfair. I should unload some more as I think they should be 1.1 but I already stand to make some good coin. I will take Sangakarra top bat at 11/2 although it looks like Gayle is leading off. Pietersen is 8/1 but I didn't like the way he hobbled off the field with a muscle strain.

Your Bulldogs are paying his salary.....so GF!! moon1 Who knows.....maybe playing alongside his brother will lift him to his former glory(!)
How did I know you were hangin' to lay this one on me??

........anyway....back to the matter at hand

Damn you World Champion Australian Cricket Team!!!.........not to be confused with the bunch of girls from all over the globe wearing the World XI uniform.

Firstly Gilchrist breaks the Australian record (his own) for the fastest One-day century....and then the rest of the top order decide to hit the World bowlers out of the park (the catch by the dude on the second tier by Symonds was a ripper!!)

This will be some kind of miracle for these World "ladies" to even get 250 let alone 328!!!
Laying some of this off at $1.25 is going to cost me plenty!!

The next time I see Ponting down at the Kangaroos training session......I'm going to hand him an invoice for the damage he and his cronies have done to my accounts in recent times. :cursin:

Well done BB and Alb.......I hope ya cleaned up plenty :toast:

When does the next World Cup start and what can I get for the reigning champs to go back-to-back??? LMAO!!
