I still don't understand this. I grew up in Michigan, just outside of Detroit, and I never heard of Detroit style pizza. Jets Pizza (which is what it seems to be based on) was gaining popularity in the mid 90's, but I never recall it being called Detroit style.

Considering that Dominos, Little Caeser's Pizza, and Hungry Howie's came out of Detroit, this is all the more confusing.

I just started hearing about Detroit Style recently. Like in the last few months and now I see it everywhere. WTF? Supposedly it's been out for a long time but virtually undiscovered. Trooper was eating it at Pizza Rock in one of his videos and even had it somewhere else in a later video. I'm not crazy about the thick crust pizza but this looks pretty crispy.

Detroit-style pizza, a descendent of Sicilian-style pizza, traces its roots to one man ? Gus Guerra. In 1946, Gus owned what was then a neighborhood bar, Buddy's Rendezvous, when he decided he needed something new for the menu.

Okay, I definitely remember Buddy's Pizza. It was okay. Reminds me of Jets and Cottage Inn.....thick rectangle pizzas that are good for a change of pace but not my preference.

On the course!
I always thought "Detroit Style" meant that when you came back outside, your tires were gone.

the concept has really gained traction over the past 15 years I'd say. basically the thick, rectangular shaped pizza. Buddy's is the best I can tell you to make you think of it, I guess Jets kind of.
