Really hope you are right. By the way Suns are 4-0 ATS at home first quarter
Suns my favorite team. Cashed 6 straight with them but going back to Memphis, I went over to 3 Shades of Blue a major Memphis blog today and what I read was so bleak and hopeless sounding it is really hard for me to imagine people betting on them. Got to get back to study. GL

A lot was made tonight about how poor the Nets are on the road so far and that they may not make the playoffs. Shit man, it's so early in the season and they're already saying that? I think the Nets come out very pissed and with Deron Williams questionable. I can see them rolling up the Suns pretty big. These players watch what is said about them, and every time someone says they can't, they do. In a big way.....

But you said 1st quarter, so maybe that's the key. But the only way I play that game is to bet on the Nets for the game.....GL

Limited time but will come back and talk more concerning Suns and Nets Meanwhile here is an interview at Bright Side of the Sun.
Brooklyn Nets circus including #FireKidd, disappointing Garnett and Pierce and a potential blowout

By Dave King @DaveKing_BSotS on Nov 15 2013, 6:57a 18
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The circus is coming to town, and the grand masters are former Phoenix Suns Jason Kidd and Joe Johnson. Coming with them are the aging Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. So many big names, yet so few wins in this young season.
Tweet (3) Share (1) Share 18 Comments

The Brooklyn Nets step into the fray against the Phoenix Suns laden with postseason expectations. Their starting lineup is dotted with All-Stars and the sideline is run by a Hall of Famer. What could go wrong? Well, a 2-5 start has a lot of people wondering if money really can't buy everything.

It's important to know your opponent, and there's few better ways than an insider look at the team. Enter SB Nation partner NetsDaily, who cover the Brooklyn Nets. Dennis Velasco and I exchanged questions about our teams this week in prep for the game tonight (US Airways Center, 7pm).

Bright Side of the Sun: Both the Suns and Nets have rookie NBA coaches, though Jason Kidd went straight from playing to coaching. How has that worked out so far for the Nets?

Dennis Velasco, NetsDaily: Well, considering the Nets' 2-5 record headed into tonight's match-up versus the Suns, it isn't going so well. You know that old saying, which I'll paraphrase here - "It's not like the coach played the game" - well, it may be an improvement if Jason Kidd actually threw on a uni and laced up his kicks another season. There is a clear lack of leadership that many fans were expecting to come bursting forth when Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce came to Brooklyn. So far, it's invisible. And, except for extreme cases such as Gregg Popovich, coaches are the ones that should be invisible. However, this being Kidd, him being a rookie head coach with zero experience as any type of coach, and most importantly, this being New York, Kidd is very much NOT invisible. He is thrown under a microscope everyday and it seems now, under a bus. For the most part, he's been the scapegoat, inspiring the Twitter hashtag, #FireKidd. Fair or not, Kidd's judgement by the fans will be harsh as long as the Nets don't produce and meet expectation. However, should the day come when the Nets string together Ws during the season and play well into the postseason, you'll see #WeBelievedInKiddFromTheBeginning trending on Twitter. Such is the beast.

BSotS: The Suns hired Lindsey Hunter to coach the team without, despite his not having any previous coaching experience at all. The results were disastrous - he didn't know how to manage a game (the lead assistant did that for a month) and didn't get the respect from players because he was flying by the seat of his pants. How has Jason Kidd handled game management and earning player respect?

NetsDaily: From the beginning, Kidd's credibility as a person of basketball - Olympic gold medalist, NBA champion, one of the best all-time point guards - was atmospheric. To a certain degree, you always have respect for those that did the things you want to do, and every single Nets player not named Garnett, Pierce and Terry revere Kidd. The aforementioned trio certainly respect the man. So, the respect is there, although, it has to be understood that it will take Kidd some time to fully get into a coaching groove. He has some top-notch assistants in Lawrence Frank and John Welch, who are very hands-on and interact very well with the team. Heck, Frank runs sprints with the team during practice! So, the trust and respect is really there for that collective and it's strong. As far as game management, the problem right now is rotations, which is a problem when Andrei Kirilenko isn't healthy. It's also a problem when Kidd says that he'll let the team play through runs by the other team. That's kind of blew up in his face this season. Kidd seems to be putting too much in the team and not grabbing them by the testicles and leading. Yes, the team is talented and should be doing way better than they are, but it still needs direction from the sidelines. Kidd seems to have disappointed in this regard.

BSotS: Garnett and Pierce are in the sunset of their careers looking for one last shot (or two) at a ring. I know their stats are down, and their skills are fading a bit. But, at the least, are they playing with that kind of passionate focus they brought in Boston in 2007?

NetsDaily: If we're speaking honestly, heck no. Other than getting up for the Miami Heat game, I don't see any of the passion we were all expecting as Nets fans. One of the main reasons being how badly Garnett has played. Offensively, forget about it, or as the natives say, fuhgeddahboutit! However, as you stated, skills are naturally fading. But, here's the problem - Garnett, quite possibly the greatest help defender ever and definitely one of the better defensive players to play the game, is making really dumb mistakes on defense. Just really bad decisions you would expect from a rookie! Pierce actually looks like he can still play, but there hasn't been any consistency yet. Part of that is a lack of a concrete rotation and what seems like an "up in the air" approach on how to give these old guys minutes from game-to-game this season. I'm honestly dumbfounded right now because I pinned so much hope on Garnett changing the entire culture, off and on the court. Disappointing.

BSotS: Brook Lopez has really stepped up this season. He's been fantastic offensively, though his rebound rate has dropped a bit. Is this an All-Star year for Brook like a year ago?

NetsDaily: Well, the problem is that the NBA took away the center position for the All-Star Game! Well, not really a problem, but more of a hindrance that lessens the chances of Brook getting chosen. There are a lot of really good forwards, both at the 3 and 4 in the East. Do I think Lopez is the best center in the East? No question. However, he isn't a household name and hasn't appeared in the postseason nearly enough to be recognized by the voters that are casual fans. Bropez could very well be selected after the open vote, however, as he was last year. My hope is that the Nets right the ship and with their winning, he gets more notoriety, because for the Nets to do well, Lopez will actually need to be a big part of it.

BSotS: What's your prediction for game on Friday, in terms of score and how it will play out?

NetsDaily: The Nets have had BIG-TIME trouble with younger athletic teams that can run up and down. The Nets took the day from practice on Thursday, in all likelihood because of the anticipation of needing their legs for the Suns and Los Angeles Clippers the next night. However, it had to have also been for that mental break - to clear their heads. I've been a fan of the Pacers offense that controls tempo and for the Nets to succeed, I think they need to follow that model. It'd be nice if they actually played D like the Pacers too, but we can't always get what we want, right? Previously, my gut instinct has been that the Nets would win... and that's objectively speaking too... and the Nets have lost. My gut instinct here is that they'll lose because of the aforementioned athleticism and speed, so if symmetry is a friend of mine, they'll win. However, I'll go with my gut and say the Suns run the Nets out of the building and win 112-89. But, let's go symmetry!!!

Check out NetsDaily throughout the day for great coverage of tonight's game, including my own Q and A with Dennis on the Suns' hot start and glimmering future.

By Phillip Dean On November 14, 2013 ? 3 Comments ? In November 2013 Tweet

With return of the Rudy Gay to FedEx Forum, the Memphis Grizzlies put up another Grizzaster performance against the Toronto Raptors losing 103-87. Memphis fell to 3-5 this season and recorded consecutive losses for the first time this season. Grizzlies Head Coach Dave Joerger explained it the best way after the game, no effort. ?People do not fear us anymore. We?re not putting hands on people anymore. There are a lot of people who say we shouldn?t have been in the Western Conference Finals.?
?We?re not playing hard enough. And I?ve talked about it in video sessions and pregame and halftime and postgame? Joerger said after the game.
Former Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay recorded a team-high 23 points, six rebounds, and four assists on 8-of-18 shooting (4-of-6 3FG shooting) in 42 minutes in his first game back at FedEx Forum after being traded. Toronto shot .533 from three-point range (8-of-15 3PG) and drained seven of its first nine attempts beyond the arc.

The players after the game said it?s not time to panic. I agree but they should be disappointed and frustrated with this team?s performance this year. Here are some of the major disappointments about tonight?s game.
1. The Rotation is becoming a major problem for the Grizzlies. Saturday against the Golden State Warriors, Joerger played an eight man rotation, tonight he played eleven. The Grizzlies tied the game at 70 with 3:33 in the 3rd Quarter and Joerger decides to take Zach Randolph and Tony Allen out and replace them with Ed Davis and Mike Miller.
?We were tied up 70 at the 3rd Quarter and after that I don?t know what happened? Zach Randolph said after the game.
Ed Davis is what happened Zach. For playing 23:53 and having 5 points and 5 rebounds. Though he had a good first half against the Raptors I still don?t see why Davis should get those types of minutes and put that type of performance. Will someone please explain to me sometime why he should have more playing time than someone like a Kosta Koufos or Jon Leuer.
2. Mistakes keep occurring for this team. The Grizzlies would finish with 17 turnovers.
?Us making turnovers where the opponents are scoring easy lay-ups is really disheartening. It?s a broken record. We have been talking about it and talking about it? Joerger said on the turnover situation.
3. The Grizzlies struggled to the foul line and helped the Raptors get to the foul line easily. Toronto made 33 of its 39 free throw attempts (.846), while Memphis made 11 on 17 tries (.647).
?I?m concerned we?re not getting to the foul line enough. 39 times that?s a lot and we?re fouling too much? Joerger said on after the game.
4. Memphis surrendered at least 100 points for the fourth time this season. The Grizzlies gave up at least 100 points just 11 times all of last season.
?I think we have got to get back to trusting one another on the defensive end and figure out what we are going to give up going into games and helping a helper? Grizzlies guard Tony Allen on not having the grit and grind.
Had a discussion with fellow 3 Shades of Blue writer Jonathan May at the game about Mike Conley?s performance. He?s putting up great numbers lately but do you want him to be your leading scorer over guys like Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol?
?We?ll get there. We?re going to be alright,? Joerger said in his post-game press conference.
In other news, the new Fly Lounge in FedEx Forum opened up tonight so after watching a game like that you can go drink your sorrows away and watching a game like that. I still believe in this team I just hope this fan base does as well. Believe Memphis.

Ed Davis should be on the trading block, period.
Secondly, I have to wonder who is going to lead this team now that Lionel isn?t around to do so? Joerger obviously isn?t doing so yet. Maybe he will.
Are the ?nerds? aka Hollinger, Lash, Levien et al. pulling the strings on the rotation and with Davis? minutes? Sure seems like that could be possible.
I still believe but it?s getting more difficult when you don?t see any improvement in 2 months.

This team has been atrocious to watch.
(prepare for long winded post)
I?ve watched almost every minute of this season, and frankly, this team just is not very good.
Zach has declined, the offense moves awkwardly around him, and it is tough to watch. He struggles on offense unless he has a smaller one-on-one. He is getting a lot of shots blocked. Rebounding is ok-to-dominant, but he is not going to be a Duncan-esque guy who can rely on pure length and an 18 footer. I?m not sure what?s wrong with him.
Marc is clearly very frustrated. He is a natural #2-3 scorer, and he is getting the ball in weird places, and in turn does weird things. On defense he?s consistently out of position.
You mention Conley outscoring Zach? Its because Mike Conley is the only guy on this team that can consistently get his own shot. And that is not good. Zach can if he gets a low duck-in or a 12 foot post up. But teams know how to take those away with focus.
Mike Miller is keeping us in games by being the only real safety valve on offense, and honestly he was supposed to play half as much until the playoffs. Sometimes Bayless has played that role with heat check offense. Davis has regressed mentally or just doesn?t fit.
Joeger sticking with Prince and TA for extended periods of time is a classic ?new coach completely not understanding how to manage the roster?. When those guys are in, Zach cannot operate efficiently. Bottom line. Sure, we can make runs based on Prince knocking down a few nice mid range jumpers and Tony being an erratic disruptor on defense, but its not an 82 game strategy.
The FO is in really, really bad shape. Let?s take a look:
This roster has 2 tradable assets: Marc Gasol and Mike Conley. Oh, and a 1st round pick in the next draft (of note: probably NOT a pick in the 2015 draft).
Zbo and his contract may be untradeable at this point, his player option for next year is terrifying for other teams. Prince, TA likewise. Maybe a contender looks at them, but not sure which one.
Recent moves:
Jan ?13: The Grizz send the Cav?s Mo Speights, Wayne Ellington, Josh Selby, AND a 1st Round pick in 2015 (semi protected)? For Jon Leuer. I like Leuer, but he?s averaged 6.8 mins and 2pts. Speights signed with GSW for a very favorable $3.5M/ year 2 year deal + a team option. He?s playing 14 mins with 5.5 pts.
What is one of the Grizz greatest problems? Outside shooting and spacing. Which brings up Wayne Ellington. Ellington ended up on the Mavs, where he?ll be paid $2.5M for the next two years. So far this year he has averaged 12 mins a game in only 5 games, shot 40% from 3, and scored 3.6 pts when playing. Still, he is a very capable shooter, on a cheap contract.
Let?s get back to the meat of the trade: It was to avoid the tax right?? They gave up 2 rotation guys a 2nd round pick this year AND a 1st round pick next year! For Wisconsin?s finest Jon Leuer. Let?s move on.
Jan ?13: A few short weeks later, the Grizz send Toronto Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi. Jose Calderon goes to Detroit.
The Grizzlies end up with Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince, and Austin Daye, as well as a 2013 2nd round pick from Toronto. Austin Daye is already gone and we?ve covered the other two.
June ?13: Grizz send Darrell Arthur to Denver and a 2nd round pick for Kosta Koufas. Koufos seems to be a decent pickup when he cracks the rotation.
August ?13: Tony Wroten traded from the Grizzlies to Phili. The Grizz receive a 2nd Round pick for 2014, protected from 31-50 and 56-60. So effectively the Grizzlies did not get anything. Tony Wroten is avg?ing 23 mins, 11.6 pts, 3 asts, 4 rbs. Last night he recorded an 18-11-10 triple double in 41 minutes for the Sixers.
So? here the franchise sits: $55M+ in committed cap next summer if Zach picks up his player option, the QO on Davis, and a team option on Koufos.
We have a 1st round pick this year.
Can we make moves to get better? I hope so. Can we play better as a team? I certainly believe that is possible. Do we have the right coach? Doesn?t look promising so far. Is our team better than 8 other teams in the West? Tough to say right now.

This isn?t fun bball to watch. We don?t have an identity. Last year (and years past), we were an inside-out, defensive minded team. Now? IDK what we are. Pick and roll? Pace and space? Inside-out? Definitely not defensive first. Out of all the new coaches, I believed Joeger?s job wasn?t going to be that difficult. He had/has a champ level team to work with and just some minor tweaks were/are needed.
1. Bench Prince. Prince and TA CAN?T start for you. We?re terrible in the first quarter, well, TA and Prince aren?t offensive players. Prince is NOT an elite defender anymore. Time to start Q.
2. Neither Marc or Conley want to lead the team in scoring. They aren?t shoot first guys. ZBo is a shoot first guy. Use your facilitators to get the big man going. He?s not a defensive force so let?s not fake like he?s going to make it up on defense if his offense isn?t going.
3. I know the geeks LOVE Ed Davis but it?s a reason he couldn?t get playing time. He?s got talent but he?s lazy. I know the team would hate to lose him in free agency next summer BUT what good is a guy that expects it to be given to him and not earned?! I thought this past summer was the most important one for him. I thought he could learn a few things from ZBo and Marc.
The season is NOT over. It is NOT panic time. However, we gotta start moving in the right direction. We are an extremely disappointing team right now. Time for Joeger and the new management to show me something. B/c right now, Hollins is at the house watching his contract demand price increase daily with every Grizz game.

Not playing Cleveland today at least at this time but really a very interesting game. Bobcats are looking at a series that has been very home team oriented and play against Miami the next day at home who has beaten them 12 in a row. Just a very poor spot for playing Bobcats. Cleveland ATS record with 1 cover makes them hard to bet though.
Probably wrong Cleveland does have 2 road wins at Bobcats and is 6-4 last 10 with them

saw this at Covers
-48.3u

Today I'm liking Chicago +1, Milwaukee +14.5, Minnesota -1, Brooklyn -1.5, Memphis -3.5.

Adding Philadelphia plus 8.5
Logic fairly simple. Kids playing hard with 2 covers in 2 road games and Atlanta playing at Knicks the next day. Playing team total over for less as the Kids have gone over team total in both road games and lean to Atlanta distraction in this game.

Yes they did. Suns like all teams are entitled to bad luck. Some regret that Devon left and Brooklyn got a real point guard.
Also Lost with Philadelphia but small loss as Team total came in just as Suns first quarter or first half came in
Lakers hit and I ended about up a fourth of a unit.
Lakers are now 5-1 ATS at home
Lakers are now 6-2 ATS with a day off
Memphis still has 1 ATS win this year.

Interest in Denver. Still looking. Denver is 6-4 ATS with all 3 refs.
Houston has not covered last 3 home games. Last 3 Houston games had two overtimes. Howard last game was 1 of 5. Asik real problems with management. Denver on mini-run with 3 AST covers.

Will be playing Gs first quarter when up.
Laid 5 first quarter

The Denver Nuggets ride a three-game winning streak into Houston tonight, and are finally starting to show signs of life and a belief in themselves and the system that Brian Shaw is trying to install. That?s heartening because success breeds a little patience, and make no mistake, there will be moments of patience required during the early parts of this season (at least) to see if they have the right pieces to fit their new scheme. Looking at other recent rebuilds as an example, even successful models such as Memphis took their lumps before building something consistent and cohesive.

On the other side of the court, the Rockets find themselves rebuilding with some pretty big blocks, adding Jeremy Lin, James Harden, and Dwight Howard in succession within the past two-plus seasons. They sit a couple of games above .500, with a recent win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. But they've struggled at times blending their new parts and pieces together, and are also looking to establish themselves as a top flight contender in the Western Conference, knowing they have to maintain their home court. They have an exceptional complimentary piece in Chandler Parsons, and a few other guys who are wont to have the occasional big game. The Nuggets will have to improve yet again on their recent efforts to keep themselves in the win column and put themselves above .500 after an 0-3 start.

What?s good for the Nuggets right now:

- Balance. The Nuggets had seven guys score in double digits against the T-Wolves. Even if the system has changed, the ability to score with a multitude of players makes the Nuggets difficult to defend and gives Shaw options on nights when Nate Robinson and Randy Foye (expected to be prime scoring threats this year) go for a combined 8 points. Last season, the Nuggets had 13 or 14 different leading scorers during the course of the entire season. That?s a staggering stat when you realize that comprises virtually the entirety of the team, and the preponderance of that squad remains this season.

- Effort. After some disconcerting peaks and valleys in the effort department to start the season, the Nuggets have come with better energy and focus, and Shaw has done a good job of rewarding individual effort with playing time. However, even his two DNP-CDs from the Wolves game, Quincy Miller and Anthony Randolph, have shown flashes of good things early this season (Miller in preseason), and Shaw may eventually have to short a few guys to start developing a shorter rotation for the second half of the season. Nice problem to have, if they can keep up this effort.

- Youth. Andre Miller aside, this is still one of the youngest squads in the league, and they seem to have a set of character guys who like each other as seen when they celebrate their successes and back each other up when they fall. That?s a good recipe for building something special, but there are a lot of steps between here and special.

- Andre Miller?s 3-point shooting. Who knew?

What?s troubling for the Nuggets right now:

- Inconsistency. For every step the Nuggets are taking forward, they still make a number of thoughtless errors as they continue to gel. For example, for all of Lawson?s brilliance this early season, he still makes a lot of unforced errors. Half of his turnovers against the T-Wolves were simply him losing track of the ball. For every moment you see Faried ignite this team with his passion and play, you?ll watch a good post player turn him inside out on the block. Fortunately, the players look to be conscious of those mistakes when they happen, and this team deserves as much credit for this three game winning streak as they do the 0-3 hole they dug to start.

- Scoring Guard. See Nate Rob and Randy Foye above. I appreciate the effort these guys are bringing thus far, but ... you?re here to light up the board, gents. Keep those chins up, but let?s work on that ROI. Shaw has started playing more of Evan Fournier in this spot, and although he?s been just as maddeningly inconsistent, he went for 10 against the T-Wolves, and could use more floor time to gain that confidence and consistency. Fournier outscored the Foye-Robinson duo single-handedly, with less playing time than either.

- Youth. Yep. Double-edged sword. This roller coaster ride is going to come with several of those "tick-tick-tick" noises this season right before we drop off another cliff. But should be a fun ride as long as you keep your hands inside the car.

Bottom line, the Nuggets are very hard to read just yet, and not just for us fans. The national game highlights for ESPN were hysterical in their lack of knowledge or coverage about the Nuggets just yet, with the highlights Cliff?s Notes going, "Love? Rubio? Love? Kevin Martin? Corey Brewer? Love, Love? Oh, yeah? 4th Quarter, Andre Miller, Nuggets win." The Nuggets will face a stiff test in taking this act on the road against an emerging West powerhouse, and win or lose (hopefully win), it will be interesting to see their mettle.

Go Nuggets!

Regarding first quarter would normally expect a 10 point lead

Took 8.5. Howard looks drained. 2 OT games he went about 43 minutes each. Meanwhile Denver plays next at OKC and then home vs Chicago so this could well be their easiest game.. we have 2 teams. One jelling the other in conflict. Asik if he plays----how hard will he try. Unclear to me as he wants off this team. Remains to be seen what happens but it looks like a good spot.
Adding 3rd and last play
Orlando under 204.5 Started at 202.5
Dallas has played 2 b-b games on the road
First at OKC went under by 20 points
Second was at Milwaukee and went under by 32.5
Umps fairly neutral.
