A man was shot by a customer outside a DeSoto Waffle House last week after police said he robbed several people in the restaurant.

The robbery and shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. on July 7 at the Waffle House in the 1500 block of N. I-35 service road. Police said the suspect entered the Waffle House with an AK-47 rifle and robbed several customers.

One of the customers was a licensed handgun holder and had his gun with him. Police said the handgun holder?s wife was coming to the Waffle House, and he feared the suspect would harm her or harm more Waffle House customers. The man followed the suspect out of the restaurant, called to him and shot him several times when he turned around and pointed the rifle at him.

Officers arrived to find the suspect shot in the parking lot. He is currently on life support at a local hospital. Police said he is a 25- or 26-year-old black man with numerous tattoos. He is between 6-feet-1 and 6-feet-2-inches tall and weighs between 180 and 190 lbs.

The suspect has not been identified and police are asking for the public?s help. Anyone who thinks they know him can call DeSoto Police at 469-658-3000 or 972-223-6111.
