The way to approach this argument is to identify the statistics that were key to the most winners of events on the PGA TOUR in 2005. Predictably, the statistic that was most common among winners was related to scoring. I am sure that it is not a revelation that low scoring is correlated directly to winning, but the most frequent scoring statistic to rank in the top 10 among winners was par 4 scoring average with 42 of 46 stroke play winners finishing in the top 10 in par 4 scoring. Comparatively, only 25 winners were in the top 10 in par 3 scoring, while there only 28 for par 5 scoring average.
