The Boston Red Sox go for their third straight win tonight when they open a two game set against the Detroit Tigers.
Boston won both games against the Blue Jays at the weekend and are second in the AL East at 57-40 (.588). They have been particularly good at Fenway Park going 30-14.
Tonight they start veteran right-hander John Burkett who is 7-4 with a 5.25 ERA this season. His last outing was on the road against these Tigers and he pitched seven strong innings allowing three earned runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked just one in the Red Sox 5-3 win. Burkett has an impressive 31 K's to just 10 walks in his last six outings so it's no surprise that he is 4-1 during this stretch. He is 4-0 recently against the Tigers.
Detroit are the worst team in baseball at 26-70 (.271) and a bankroll-busting -22.5 units. They have lost three straight on the road and are just 14-35 away this season. 20 year-old rookie Jeremy Bonderman is 3-13 for the Tigers this season with a 4.88 ERA and prior to a win in his last outing he had lost nine straight decisions.
