I have type II also and take a medication called Advandia every moring. It helps your pancreas produce more insulin. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. My symptons were always thirsty and getting up to go the bathroom every 2 hours all night long. For the first year I really watched what I ate. Carb counted everything. They teach you to count carbs. One serving = 15 carbs, and you are supposed to only have a certain amount of servings per day. In all honesty I forget at the moment. Every 6 months I have a blood test to check my average blood sugar level and kidney function. The level should be I think 6.5 or lower. Every year I have my eyes checked also. I am not going to lie, at first I was very depressed about the whole thing and followed my regimin to the letter. But the last year or so I have started to falter off. Last doctor visit my BSA was 7, not where it should be. I know I don't eat right every day. It is very hard when you have been a mashed potato guy your whole life and your dietician tells you "no more". Good luck, I know what you are going through. Dr. Freeze is right the consequeces will scare the shit out of you. But with the right diet and medication you can be OK.
