Big tournament 854 people entered and it was down to 74. I start off the hand with 8500 chips which is about 5 grand below average.

Blinds are at 500/1000 Ante something
I get A/K offsuit and raise it to 3000 the guy re raises all in (12,000 something) and I call which puts me all in so its a 19,000 pot. The guy flips over A9 offsuit and hits a 9 to win and knock me out.

Should I have bet all-in before the flop or did I play this the right way because this is really bugging me right now. That pot would have put me around 25th place.
Thanks

a/k is not the nuts, I would have played it similarly BUT he may not have called you if you went all in with his a9, you cannot beat luck and he got it on this hand

good luck next time

you played it perfect, you want the idiot to repop you with a9, dont be results oriented, your play was perfect, result = suckout and out of your control.

Thanks guys thought I played it good but couldnt believe he re raised me all in with A9. Was thinking of going all-in pre flop but I wanted to make sure I got a call from someone. Just got unlucky I guess.

You could have played it either way. You were low stacked, had less than 6 blinds left and once you raised that pot were pot committed. You got all your chips in with the best hand, all you can ask for, and he just got lucky...
