The coach of Spain once used a racial slur when referring to Henry! Do you think that might serve as extra motivation for him and the rest of the French team? :yup

Who cares? Someone has to even out the BSPN zumba-bumba promoters. He didn't use a slur, btw, he called him a black shit. I don't know if he's a shit, but he is black. ESPN has anti-white slurs all over its pages. Hypocrites.

Aragones said that he was trying to motivate one of his own players who also plays for Arsenal

In between discussing "racism" -- whites speaking of blacks the way blacks/BSPN speak of whites -- BSPN runs "red stripe" beer ads in which blacks call whites ugly and bad dancers. 'Euro-trash' is all over ESPN boards. All this really isn't too revelant, except in one way: teams that are "diverse" are overpromoted by the media, esp BSPN, and so you can make money going against them.

Brazil plays a beautiful game? Compared to Germany?

Did you catch the selfishness in the first half - the guy, not sure of his name, deliberately refused to pass to Ronaldo in front of goal mouth for his 16th/2-0 lead. The 'beautiful' game is selfish.

GO GHANA!

He did not use the two words directly together.

He said:

"Give it to the Black. Show that piece of s*** that you are better than he is."

So if he had said:

"Give it to the Frenchman. Show that piece of s*** that you are better than he is." or "Give it to the man. Show that piece of s*** that you are better than he is."

- then would this have been derogatory towards Frenchmen? or towards all men? I don't think so - it was just a way to identify Henry (obviously not the best way - but it was in the heat of the moment). Aragones has coached many players of different races and no one has ever had a problem with him.

But let the media go ahead and hype the French - my money will be on Spain...

everyone is so dramatic, if you're betting france because you think the team will be trying to show up the spain coach then you deserve to lose. bet france because you think they're the better team if you want to bet them not for these stupid reasons

ESPN had a different quote than what I've seen in papers. It's their usual mountain out of a molehill. If you don't subscribe to their liberal orthodoxy, they rant and rave and try to drive you out of sports, like Marge Schott and so many others.

Pretty good game by Ghana, all kinds of chances but no goals. Brazil made some nice moves. Hard to tell if Brazil is stronger or weaker than they appear. It looks like they are leaving all kinds of openings for the team that can finish, but it also seems they have gears in reserve for teams who step up and challenge them.

I'm sure there are many translations and interpretations of his quote. Either way, it was a stupid comment, but I don't think France will be extra motivated - this is the world cup after all so adrenaline should run high...

Brazil looks really good - but they did appear a bit selfish. They had two wide open shots on goal if the player would have passed the ball. This could be their downfall.

WTF is wrong w/ you? you open a thread to discussion about a topic and someone gives their opinion about something and this is your response, that they are "stupid."

And by the way, no one said you were betting France...Hoopsguru used the word "if"

and to top it off you did take France
