Getting Direct TV tomorrow. I live in an apartment complex where it can't be attached to the actual building, so I need a tripod-type thing to set it up on my outdoor patio. Preferrably something I can buy at a store tonight and not have to order since it's coming tomorrow. Anyone have experience with this or suggestions on what to buy?

I did a lot of reading on the law when I rented and had directv installed and if I remember right you can still attach it to your railing so long as it does not protrude over the edge. Depending on what kind of railing you have, this works great. I basically used the "pipe" attachment that attaches to the dish:

See the pipe its on? Thats a separate part. I took that to the hardware store and bought two u-bolts that fit the width of the pipe plate, like this:

Then I basically bolted it to the railing. It is secure as hell and 100% temporary.

2nd backup choice is to attach that thing to a pole and use the bucket of rocks method - essentially a 5 gallon bucket full of rocks and our Quickrete. Not a recommended long term solution but if you need it in a pinch it will get you through till you can get something more permanent.

If you dont want to drill through your walls, I had success using flat rj-45 cables like this:

It allows you to run cable through a window or door without drilling holes through your wall.

Ace- Thanks a lot for the response

Old School - I have to be honest... I am getting neither the NFL Sunday Ticket nor do I have HDTV. I'm usually doing work on Sundays (and am not a huge NFL fan anyway, at least not compared to college). Eventually I will make the leap into the HD world, though! I've heard good stuff about the Superfan thing.
