Nope. No different than the guy working the counter at Taco Bell, 7-11, or CVS.

Worlds Apart.

My last waiter job the person who took the order, bagged it and rung it up. I don't know what hourly wages for waiters are nowadays, but it was $2.15 an hour in my day. The examples you cited all make miinimum wage or more

Sometimes... But I think that's only because I feel guilty or bad if I don't... A lot of these places now use that iPad and a square to charge your card and as soon as they swing that thing around for you to sign the first thing you see is the tipping options...I swear Every time I go to birdies this dude who works in the morning always gives me this teary fragile puppy dog face when he has me sign the receipt for a 3.50 cent donut. I end up paying 5 bucks for the donut after seeing his miserable face. No more. No tip. As matter of fact the next time I see him I'm gonna give him my handkerchief and tell him to wipe his face.

Good thread. Thanks. Made me think how much $ I've shitted away

Not really. I don't tip on take out orders simply because I don't think I should. What's next? McDonald's drive through?

No, McD's isnt next. I recommend you stop going there immediately, though

When it comes to what the waiter does and what you just described, the effort and service provided are definitely world's apart. Don't make someone pay for a service they don't receive just because you are paid prison wages.

Bagging take out order: 20 minutes or 20 seconds?
Ringing up customer: 20 minutes or 20 seconds?

Lots of restaurants now make you order at the counter, take your number and bus your own tray - these are also the ones that have the 10%, 15%, 20% tip option upon a credit card swipe at the counter.

Some people argue that the workers are doing extra by packaging up your takeout food so they should get a tip.
