We are DEVO.
Actually, I didn't want to wade thru all the crap in the other thread. I don't think religion or politics are appropriate subjects on sports and betting forums, JMHO. Unless of course it is to leverage GOD to give us winning picks or posts about politicians, like that KYL ahole, who are trying to ban our pasttime. We should all oppose that kind of politician.

But religion and politics, in general, are too diverse for reasonable debate. Most people won't be persuaded one way or another anyway - it just leads to divisiveness. I just want freedom FROM RELIGION. I don't care what u believe in, or if u even believe in GOD, but don't subject me to ramifications if I believe in GOD w/o the religious dogma that most MUST ATTACH. "God is love, and versa visa" may be the key!

On the course!
Time out. I feel this stuff is great! You can't talk sports all of the time, as that gets dull.

But, to say: But religion and politics, in general, are too diverse for reasonable debate. Most people won't be persuaded one way or another anyway - it just leads to divisiveness.

What divides people in this place more than sports?!?

That's all that goes an all day in here! I like one team, you like the other.

The reason your sports oppinion gets dismissed, and the other topics get 50 replies? People realize that politics and religion mean more to them than a stinking ball game! Plus, you can debate politics and religion without "fear of being wrong". Since we can't prove/dispel the existance of a god, and since we can't be sure of what would have happened if the "other guy" got elected, they are easy to take a stand on.

But, choosing a side in a sporting event has a definite result. You will be right, or you will be wrong! Most people would rather not tell you their thoughts on a game, for fear of being wrong.

We need to argue, as much as we need to agree. It keeps us fresh and on our toes.

yyz, good point! i didnt read this until after i closed that thread. i just don't want people getting pissed off at each other over something like that.

it's hard to communicate with the keyboard and people also say shit thay don't mean or wouldn't say if they were talking eye to eye. iow, create an enemy when they could have wound up good friends had the subject not been discussed.

things have been getting ragged around here the last few weeks anyway. i guess some are bored with bases (I am) and are anxious to get on to football. not to mention all the agendas flying around lately.

i'll be back on my toes with the forum by thursday and stop all the BS that has been filtering into the handicapping forums. i'll definitely clean this place up

I was listening to What Do You Know? on the radio a while back.
A caller was asked this question:
How many Americans pray before they go to bed?
A - 1 out of two.
B - 1 out of three.
or C - 2 out of five.

She said:

How about praying that the condom doesn't break?
Does that count?

yyz,
I am all for intelligent repartee and debate. But invariably, topics like politics, religion, abortion, death penalty, etc. lead to name calling and racial epithets and downright moronic posts. I wish it weren't so, but it is reality. So many are 100% one way or the other that they get downright pissed off when someone makes a good point that doesn't fall in their "camp". As a result, every thread I've ever seen on these subject degrades into garbage. So it is better to debate such topics in other forums, IMO. Cluttering up sports/gambling forums with such debates is fruitless and only leads to hard feelings and "garbage talk".

Diviseness over a game isn't in the same ballpark as diviseness over religion ( the # killed being a good indicator ). We may disagree on a game, or debate the merits of an angle, but people haven't died for it - catch my drift. Let's get along!

One thing we can all agree on:
"Insert the name of your most hated rival in sports" SUCKS!
Question: Would god bet all dogs because of the name connection? Now that's an angle!

On second thought, The earth really is flat and when people are sick they should be bled with leechs to let out the "bad blood".

I would hate to offend anybody by suggesting otherwise.

----

The other thread was hurting nobody. There was no name calling, no death threats just a good debate.

If your own beliefs can't stand a little self-questioning what good were they in the first place.

I agree with ya Billboy!
There are a number of highly evolved minds here at MJs and daily life questions, life frustrations, matters of morality, ethics, etc. have a place in General Discussion.....Don't like the topic...dont read or expound. Seems like there has been interest though. Sometimes ya just wanna take care of some BIZ., clarify something thats been on your mind and is not sport related..There are some very knowledgeable people here and were lucky to have the opportunity to share life knowledge, experience, career expertise in addition to sport info. This site is a great one for insight to picking winners because there are many winners here. Life is much more than sport and gambling, however, and I for one look forward to seeing the varied viewpoints and perspectives from these real people that I am coming to know better.
Helps me understand the mindsets of the new guys and the capping legends.
